Selena is a former child actor which means she never got a basic education (school on set is a joke). She means well but isn't well informed about the world at all.

this makes sense. didnt take that into consideration

Nobody is obligated to speak on Palestine/Israel

I don't disagree with that. What I'm saying is that those who say that celebrities with huge platforms should speak up (I personally don't give a **** what they have to say) are evidently full of ****.

It's the case for tons of celebs. So many are basically high school dropouts who get treated like little gods from a young age.  Their opinions and knowledge is predictably terrible.

Selena basically started supporting her family at age 10 and clearly has mental health struggles. It's good to have a little grace and realize that some celebs geniunely only understand the entertainment world.

And if we want them to talk about current events, we should expect a high percentage of terrible statements.

Yeah, I think the “celebrities should use their platform” mentality only makes sense if the celebrity is informed. I don’t think there’s shame in simply saying “I’m not informed enough about the issue to comment.” It’s less cynical then a celebrities’ team proofreading a statement

It's crazy how she said "I feel horrible for all the innocent lives lost" and got heat while others have not said a single word and are selling 1.5 million copies a week.

New York Times’ Bestseller Britney Spears is not obligated to speak out on global issues that should be discussed and educated by our political leaders.

I want to believe that tbh. Someone getting educated is always a good thing

you guys are giving public education a little too much credit… like this was one of the first few Friends for Change spokespeople we’re talking about here.  :suburban:

Likely what happened is after the backlash, one of selena's team members , who is college educated, informed Selena of the actual history.

All I'm saying is if you're rich you have access to the best education in the world and lots n lots of them home schooled celebrities do not use that privilege. So the least you can do is a couple of google searches, a signature, and a tweet.

She didn't learn from BLM in 2020 when she said "I don't need a tweet a ******* hashtag!!!" got dragged, and left social media? Idk why certain celebs feel like they have to be some sort of voice for stuff they can't change. Just shut up. You are not as influential as you think.
