Of 748m total units U.S. YTD, Taylor Swift has 14.7m, including 1.5m for the first week of 1989 (Taylor’s Version), which amounts to a 2% overall marketshare.

We’ve spilled plenty of ink detailing what a force of nature Taylor is and how her domination of the marketplace from every conceivable angle is next-level. But she just seems to get bigger, and to rule every area she enters—the rerecorded albums, the massive tour, the blockbuster movie of the tour, the NFL games where her mere presence changes the center of gravity.

Now comes her biggest rerecording yet, along with a fresh avalanche of merch. What will she sell us next? And while we’ve just had news of her net worth hitting $1b, what is the valuation of Taylor Swift Enterprises? How many billions is she really worth at a multiple of, say, 15-20 times earnings?

And I’m pretty sure the biggest prior year for any artist in the Soundscan/Luminate era is under 12m :gaycatx:

Not almost 15M units in. a. single. year. :deadbanana4:

And we still have about 2 more months to go, with her selling like 250k units weekly, more now with '1989 (TV)'.

Btw she is selling 40 to 45 million global units this year. So we assume if she sells like 17 million plus this year. She is selling atleast 23 to 25 million units outside USA. I want to be such a local artist😈

Isnt that more than some girlie entire career. Insane.

Global marketshare is valued by the investment community at roughly $1 billion per percentage point.

So her contribution to the music industry is worth $2 billion. Crazy.

Some girls take years to sell this much globally. I see why they insist on calling her local

I’m beginning to think that Taylor Swift might be a successful recording artist.

Taylor‘s last decade created 40 Million (4 Million on average per year) EAS as tracked by Nielsen.

23 Million digital+physical album sales

76 Million digital single sales translate into 7.6 Million EAS

And her streaming generated 9.4 Million EAS

This year she can finish on 16 Million EAS. And 2024 can be similar successful.

Has she seriously sold 76 million digital sales in the states since the introduction of EAS?!! That’s probably her most impressive stat of all considering how dead digital sales have been ever since streaming took over

76 million downloads only. That is singles sales which is converted into teas

Digital albums are counted in pure sales as full albums.

I put in some hard work to figure this out earlier this year, or at least figure it out for 1991 onward since pre-Soundscan units are unreliable, but it seems that the thread where I posted my findings has been deleted for some unknown reason - which is disappointing, because I didn't record it anywhere else.

Luckily I happen to remember that the #1 was the Backstreet Boys, who sold 11.7 million albums in their peak year, 1999; they didn't have much other consumption to account for, like heavy singles sales, so we don't have to bother converting into a modern units kind of thing. I can tell you that even if we do convert years before 2014 to units instead of pure sales, nobody beats them. Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Adele, NSYNC, Eminem, and Garth Brooks were all on the list, but none of them ever reached 11m units in a single year in the data that I could find.

That means that this year for Taylor is already easily the best year for any artist in American music since at least 1991, when we started getting reliable sales reports from Nielsen.

B-But people in Uzbekistan, Croatia, and the Congo aren't playing her music 24/7 so who cares about these local stats?
