It's always hilarious to me that democracies with a monarch as the Head of State complain about it and what they don't know is that a constitutional monarch always has and will remain impartial to any partisan requests, while a President of the Republic (or whatever alternative there is) will be chosen by the winning party and will obviously remain bias to whatever partisan needs there are.

How people actually fail to see that a constitutional monarch will be more impartial (because he has to remain impartial) than a President of a Republic is honestly mind-blowing to me :toofunny2:

Just accept the blessing in disguise you have and move on...

Imagine living in a monarchy...

It's bad enough I have to support our useless political class with my taxes but at least I can vote for them.

Babe kings and queens in modern mocharchies don't have many actual political powers. Spain still has a prime-minister that's part of a party and that effectively rules the country and runs the government.

And murder doesn't exist anymore because it's illegal to commit murder :deadbanana2:

Anyways, constitutional monarchies are basically harmless (and powerless) at this point so it's weird they get so much hate.

Let's hope Leonor starts the reparations process by pardoning Shakira (+ a formal apology from queen to queen)

Babe I live in the UK which has the exact same system of government as Spain: a parliamentary constitutional monarchy. But it's cute that you came here thinking you were educating someone... :skull:

The King/Queen (Head of State) is still in charge to form a government and that can be tricky when there's a political deadlock, so someone that doesn't represent or come from any of the parties at stake and whose actions are being watched by those in favour and those against that very own position will be more keen to show impartiality than a President of a Republic, put there by the winning party and who pledges allegiance to whatever the party wants to get done without having to consider his position or what he represents.

A monarchy in 2023 is nothing but symbolism and also a figure of continuity and belonging, a monarch doesn't have to please either parties so therefore he's less likely to act with bias.

I'm against monarchies (by principle) but I'm pragmatic and I can see how they have been working much better in Europe than other republics (not going to name names but all 3 major current European far right governments are republics).

Also, just letting ya know that the same money you pay to the King/Queen will have to be paid to the President of the Republic or whoever acts a Head of State, so the taxing dilemma is a silly one, also considering Spain's monarchy is one of the less costly in Europe.

People going against a monarch thinking a president will be a better choice for a parliamentary system... good luck with that. It'll be more room for corruption and partisan views.

Hahaha if you just believe a constitutional monarch is in any sense impartial is because you don't live in Spain. :ahh:

It's unreal for me how I'm related to the Spanish monarchy because one of my ancestors was a bastard son of one of the former kings of Spain.
