Y’all… really expected a huge debut for her just cause of FN? Why?

DTN, Potion, Demeanor, Cold Heart and all the other droplets did not have impressive debuts either. Where was she going to start pulling #1 debuts from?

what kind of delusion is this :deadbanana4: she's been in the industry for almost a decade now and she had both time and hits to build a fanbase. she just didn't do it.

and how the **** is Houdini similar in ANY way to the mentioned random singles (potion and demeanor aren't even her song lmao) when it's THE comeback + lead single?

stanning her and defending **** takes are two different things.

OF COURSE, everyone expected her to do well, Don't Start Now and Levitating are two of the best songs of this decade. and she's doing okay but people expected way more after such a huge era. she can be a 10-years-of-payola-to-get-a-hit type of girl forever, but why if she just could build a fanbase and get it going straight away :deadbanana:

it just shows she doesn't have much power and her fanbase is not big which is surprising considering that her 2 albums are streaming juggernauts.

it is OK to admit part of it is smoke & mirrors and still be her fan. the delusion is too much.

Some of you need to just go stan Jack Harlow or something since you base your opinions of a song solely on its chart performance (in less than a week :deadbanana4:)

you're taking to the same fanbase that was shitting on dance the night for months before it became big thanks to the biggest movie of the decade :deadbanana2: most of y'all besides oldies like @Cain just stan her for the success and not for the music/her actual vibe, and i KNOW most of y'all will drop her the second she either really bombs/releases something less disco/synthy

In the current musical climate, with billboard points being at an all time low… a pop star of Dua’s caliber, especially following an era as large as FN, should easily be able to debut in the top 10. Or at least reach #1 on ITunes, which Houdini wasn’t able to do either. I think it just shows that Dua has yet to build a real, dedicated fan base yet in the states. Which is fine, but it is what it is.

AS IF that's even a metric that matters anymore, y'all are really speaking out of your asses :deadbanana4:

ot: This is gonna be her highest debut on the hot 100 even if it misses the top 10, that's already a HUGE feat. She's never been known for huge debuts anyways, idk why some of y'all fans and ODHs alike are acting like she's somehow gonna start having huge debuts out of nowhere. Longevity has always been her main forte which is much better than a huge debut then dropping.

She delivered Quality as usual though so idk why yall even care so much about charts. The main thing I want her to keep bringing is quality, the success is just a bonus.

What delusion? I literally said she obviously was not going to debut high because she never has and all her droplets showed that, even post FN :deadbanana2: You’re literally out of touch if you think the GP is aware of what the start of a lead single is vs a random droplet for any pop girl like Dua right now. I’m aware she didn’t build a fanbase to give her a high debut which was my entire point of the post, and anyone who thought differently was delusional.

You can’t smoke and mirrors the numbers FN pulled, otherwise every girl would be doing it. Her numbers are legit because she makes good music that just takes people time to connect with. There aren’t THAT many girls who can debut high right off the bat right now. Even girls like Billie who HAVE massive fanbases don’t always debut high. Doja is another example of a girl coming off a huge era and had a FLOP lead single, one that pretty much flopped way harder than Houdini is indicating.

And no **** I would unstan Dua if she stopped making music I liked? Do you think I would just toss my money and streams at her just cause she’s pretty? And you can even look up my posts, I loved Dance the Night since it came out, I didn’t care about how it performed cause it was a movie single. I don’t even really care that much about Houdini performs either cause I like it with or without success, I just want it to be successful because it’s leagues better than the **** that becomes a hit nowadays :rip:

I swear the narratives around Dua change faster than the wind. One second she’s a faceless flop, then the next second all her stans are only stanning her success. It’s so obvious some of you just want to argue, which sure let’s do it, but the fact it’s constantly centered around contradicting or fake narratives regarding Dua is getting tired.

Maybe I’m just desensitized to low debuts after smash eras being a Navy since 2007. You can’t scare me with low numbers, I’m a Tinashe stan too.

It took Rihanna 7 albums until she reached the #1 spot in the US. Let that sink in. Just to put things into perspective a little.

Just because Dua doesnt have the craziest debuts doesnt mean she's not one of the most successful popgirls we have. There's a reason why she has so many 1+ billion streamed songs and soon a couple of 2+ billion streamed songs despite only starting her 3rd era

I just want a performance… like

These were the days

Obviously I stan her also for the amazing music, but a huge part of it is also that she was always working and promoting and performing, there was always something exciting coming up that we knew about. It barely feels like we’ve started a new era now

Dua should come out with 7" vinyl variants for Houdini. It'll help with sales and boost the song. Also, I've been seeing people on Tik Tok replicate the choreo from the MV so it might just go viral in the next coming weeks.

At least she’s making her radio rounds. But yes, we need a performance!

No I think the EMAs were first? Not sure tho

But yes there were like 6 performances in the first month or so, it was crazy

Also the EMAs were like a very viral twitter moment for her where it was like “I’m HERE”, we’re missing that now

Like yeah she has red hair but other than that this feels like the DTN release

Yeah it's unfortunate it sounds like they stretched her too thin. Based on that interview she doesn't want to be overly booked.

I just checked, GN was Nov 1 (filmed on Oct 31), EMA's were on Nov 3... she was grinding so hard that first week

I think partly why there hasn't been any performances so far is because there is no event like the EMA's happening this time around, maybe they are saving the talk show performances for after the new year/album announcement when they think the song might be peaking

She was obviously just talking about DL1 tho? She said she course corrected during FN

I'm too bored to follow-up with all her interviews, but any hints on the sound or a juicy info about the album?

This is a really good song but I feel like it's too cool and sophisticated for the masses.

Wrong. I said "Be The One" >>> Dont Start Now

on the music single thread

+ the EMA performance sold the song for me

Kevin Parker and Danny L Harle produced/wrote the entire album

Dua sis....you are not a veteran in the industry just yet (especially not in the US). You cannot just do radio interviews and call it a day. She NEEDS to showcase her music and give people visuals to match the music in their head (including live performances). You can't go Houdini during your singles release week like....gurl...you're not a Beyonce or Taylor or Gaga who can do stuff like that because they've been in the game for so long that it just doesnt matter anymore. Your fans are CRAVING moments from u still....come on girl!

Honestly freaking out about the Hot100 is dumb. See yall in march.

However, it is concerning that she's not effortlessly debuting at #1 in the UK.
