“There were omissions and factual errors in The New Yorker article that misrepresented my life story, so I wanted to give people the context and materials I provided The New Yorker with full transparency,” Minhaj said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

In the video — which you can see in full below — Minhaj provides more context on three stories from his stand-up act that drew scrutiny in The New Yorker: being rejected for prom because of racism, his run-ins with undercover law enforcement surveilling the Muslim community in his hometown, and an anthrax scare he had at his home.

But the damage is already done. People never followup on what negative press does first.

I’m ten minutes in and he’s really destroying that reporter :skull:

The weirdest thing about this whole situation to me is that people think comedians' anecdotes are supposed to always be truthful :deadbanana:

I'm not even a fan of his, and I like the article writer Clare Malone's work, but it feels like way too much was made of this

Why would it take him so long to respond to an article if it was so blatlantly false. He probably presented the same argumentation to CN and they still decided to not keep him for TDS so I don't know... sounds like he's trying to save what's left of his career.

Asking a comedian to be truthful in his stand up is literally the stupidest ******* thing I've ever heard. What is wrong with people? Do they really think a scripted standup special is 100% real?

yeah that’s what I’m coming away with after watching the vid. I also do think the reporter at The New Yorker clearly had an agenda. But idk… this whole thing is incredibly messy

I haven't watched the video yet but if the article was not factual then he should sue The New Yorker since it cost him the host job for The Daily Show.

I don't think accusing a Muslim man of faking racism is "dumb", especially when he provided ample proof of his claims. I think it's malicious and insidious. Why did they go out of their way to misrepresent him? What was the point of it?

Looks like someone did not want him to get The Daily Show host job. The timing of him being in the running and the article coming out cannot be a coincidence.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards that. The fact that the writer of the article is standing by it when there's actual recorded audio of her f*cking up is eye-opening. She's considered one of the good journalists too. We're cooked.

At the end of the day, she's still a white woman. Not surprised at her not showing any remorse that her careless and non-factual reporting caused a brown man his job.
