Hasan Minhaj has been informed he won’t be taking over as the permanent host of The Daily Show, according to Puck News. The decision comes after a recent report in The New Yorker revealed that Minhaj had embellished some of the stories of discrimination in his standup act.

Puck News’ Matthew Belloni reports that the former Daily Show correspondent was expected to be announced as the new host this summer had the writers strike not taken place. Though no deal had officially been signed, they had closed on “all the financial details pre-strike, and only the papering remained.”

Instead, the announcement was held, and a story in The New Yorker was published on September 15th in which Minhaj said, “My comedy Arnold Palmer is seventy percent emotional truth — this happened — and then thirty percent hyperbole, exaggeration, fiction.” According to Puck News, Paramount Media Networks chief Chris McCarthy then “decided to move on” from Minhaj.

Since the departure of Trevor Noah in 2022, The Daily Show has relied on a series of guest hosts, including Al Franken, Chelsea Handler, Sarah Silverman, Kal Penn, and Leslie Jones.

The show returned on October 16th following the end of the writers strike. As of now, the plan is for another round of guests hosts until Comedy Central settles on a permanent anchor.

I’m not understanding the problem. He’s a comedian. He’s kinda hot too.

Is the Daily Show necessary at this point? Just go to a progressive news YouTube channel.

I will never understand why he admitted to it and also why he lied about his experience. All comedians kind of lie or over exaggerate lived experiences for entertainment but they sort of stay ambiguous about whats true or not. He just straight up created scenarios from thin air apparently and then ADMITTED to doing it :skull: I don't get it lol

John Oliver's show is too successful for him to back out of the HBO money and go back to a daily format.

It's what he deserves tbh. :michael:

It's not uncommon for comedians to make fake stories but when you do it for hate crimes it's a whole another story, especially since he used it to garner sympathy from Asian American viewers.

Also, in one of his stories, he talks about a girl from his high school that supposedly rejected him, he then showed a blurred picture of her on the show and a lot of his fans ended up harassing her.

They do but not for real life events that traceable (the Saudi anthrax story) or involve and naming of real life people (his prom date).

I just assumed comedians were almost always lying :rip:

Comedians don’t lie per se. They exaggerate lived experiences. He looked as if he literally just created stuff.

He's painfully unfunny and obnoxious so it's sad that he was even in the running
