Most big female artists were not rich before fame after all, surprised?

Just like Taylor's father? Yet only Taylor gets dragged for this despite both working their asses off to get where they are today.

No, this isn't a dig against Beyoncé at all. Just a weird double standard seen on ATRL :khalyan2:

Madonna and Mariah too

Madonna didn't grow up poor. Her father was an engineer at Chrysler and they lived in a very nice suburb.

This is her 5 bedroom childhood home

Umm the only icons and legends who were legitimately dirt poor are Dolly, Celine, Shania and Jewel.

What is this? Rihanna is from a third world country. There is no way those girls have less money than someone from a little island

I heard Bey's father hustled his way to the music industry just to give Bey a simple music contract; Britney IIRC her family was poor before she became a childstar; Taylor lived in a single bedroom house in Nashville before signing to big Machine; Rih's from a remote island in Barbados and had had coconuts and fruits most of the time just to get by; Katy's family live off of church donations; Gaga was disowned by her parents at the mere age of 19 and had to strip dance for a $2 tip to follow her dreams.

And now Lana, the definitive "rich kid" from the crop of famous female artists actually lived in a trailer park and not some huge mansion in Salt Lake.

I'm glad their kids (if all of the girls decided to have them someday) won't experience such cruel side of life.

I am in tears with Lana's upbringing struggles.

was waiting for someone to mention Madonna .. the famous story is that she came to NY with just $35 to her name and was homeless for a time, couch hopping in NY.

Beacuse she was a rebel but back at Ciccones house it was a middle class reality, some people say her father had connections in NY and helped her, she could chose safe places to stay but liked living with rats on street instead

she lived in NYC and hustled for years before her debut was released. she was already 24 when her first single came out, that's relatively old for a pop star, at least compared to Britney, Kylie, Bey, Taylor, Rihanna, etc. who all started in their teenage years.

True, but I know she struggled on her own for some time.

They were all “rich” and there’s nothing wrong with that.

This absolutely ain't true. Spears' family was poor. They made Britney work since she was a child and literally put her under an abusive Cship to have a rich lifestyle.

They were lower middle class.. and none of it benefited her at the least. She made herself happen not her dad

Her parents were from a finance background. Dad was a Meryll Lynch stock broker (not as prestigious as you think)

The group advises a limited number of high-net-worth individuals, business owners and corporate executives, and is accessible to new clients “only via an existing client referral,” according to its website."

That was $450 million in 2011.

Idk I just know I’m always so inspired by Rih’s story

Literally from a tiny, tiny country, with nothing  but a dream. Now she’s one of the biggest stars of all time. It’s crazy

Only Katy, Xtina, Britney, Kesha and Rihanna could be considered rag to riches stories. Mrs. Carter most definitely come from an upper middle class background seeing as her father was loaded due to his job at  Xerox Corporation. A lot of them come from at least middle to upper class backgrounds. Only a few come from below the poverty line. Some were financially poor when they got their big break but, that doesn't mean they were from wealthy families with tons of connections.

Sis, Barbados is not a third world country, I live here I would know. We are more of a developing nation, so 2nd world

I guess this thread was made to shade Lana but Swifties have embarrassed themselves even worse. :rip:

It's ok to be rich. I don't have to defend Taylor for being born in rich family. She makes good music and that is what matters to me.

Most pop singers lie about their backstory. They were "always discovered because of their amazing talent" when in fact their family knew someone or they hooked up with someone who knew someone or was THE someone.

They lie about the upbring. Sure, maybe they were not rich, but if u are middle or up middle class in the US or other developed country, your life is pretty confortable and you have access to culture, to classes etc.

They often take one episode where they struggled and make it seem like reality. Let me use as example: one time I was robbed in London and I had to sleep on the street for one night during winter time. If i was a pop singer I could use this experience and make it seem I really struggled. I also was 4 days without food cause I spent all my money, I can say I was similar to people in poor countries that dont have what to it. So I was homeless and didnt have money to it for days at time. Thats how artists do it, it is great PR, no one like a privileged person who gost think relatively easy. Well, maybe Paris or Kim, but they are famous for being privileged and careless, they arent loved. A pop artist needs love.

Midia wont peak up something like "my mom was friends with Republic Records A&R who was my godfather and helped me out getting into the business".

Madonna wasnt poor and she loves to talk about she got to NY with no money and living in bad part of town when jn reality she came to NY with a job waiting for her and she could dedicate to the arts most of the time. This is not a poor person. Also not rich, but defenetaly not poor.

She is literally a boomer she got the best time to be an adult in the US. U would go to university and u would have a job in ur field waiting for u when u came out.

Not like today that u go university and then u get all kinds of not related to ur degree jobs, and jobs really "below ur investment and qualifications".

Taylor is just rich. I know because she has this exquisite, expensive, opulent, cultured, and sophisticated taste on everything. The thing only really rich people would understand. Like how the succession-rich ladies know their luxury apparels and jewelries. That's why her style is always sophisticated and classic in opposite of camp, theatrical and circus-like as most popstars.  But even then, she still works hard to appeal to us, peasants. It's not her fault though.
