I have been looking at Season 5's thread instead of working on my own entry. I just feel like every idea I have is doomed to stay as an idea I can't execute. :weeps:

i kinda love doing this though - it’s cool that practically the entire history of this game is just archived for anyone to read through.

I draw a map in my mind, and wish that I was there
Out in space, far away, ‘til my nothingness fades
For something to fulfill me in a cosmic kind of way

- Sea of Stars

--

Fun fact: I was originally planning on calling this "There's Nothing Left on Earth", as I thought it was an eye-catching title that sparked curiosity, but I decided to call it "Sea of Stars" instead. The title was taken from the game of the same name, though the song doesn't actually correlate. My song does have a lot to do with wonder, as well as wander, though, and I felt both of those a lot playing this game earlier in the year. In a sense I suppose I was inspired by the game.

Fun fact #2: Midjourney is back, and the "cover" was generated using that exact lyric excerpt I posted above. While I just generally described what I wanted for the cover in the last season, I plan on using lyric excerpts for prompts for all my entries this season.

Time to bring back the "Print this Thread" feature and start a Golden Hit novella series? :eli: No but obviously I agree, the amount of memories I've unlocked when returning to an old PH or SOTS thread for various reasons (scores, reviews, gifs, banter etc.) is insane. Good times.

OK we love this, literally letting the lyrics paint a picture. :WAP: Your mind! Looking forward to drowning in your "Sea of Stars".

after two days of writer’s block, i can happily say that i finally finished a demo i’m proud of. i’ll be spending tomorrow retouching some things. it’s giving experimental take on the challenge :jonnycat:

Can someone post an example? It’s not the most difficult prompt, but I also feel like my song will turn out too basic because of how simple the prompt is idk :gaycatx:

Hit a roadblock. Thought I could serve a solo Lilith-Fair-esque acoustic bop but I'm weak.

Lemme send this over to Ezzy so he can laugh at me and add some rock flair to it.

Do you mean examples of actual songs, or of works written for ATRL writing tournaments that would satisfy this brief? I can provide some of the latter in a few hours if that would help.

Regardless, I wouldn’t be too worried about being too basic. Overthinking can be even worse for writing than being too simplistic. Just focus on how it makes you feel, and have fun with it! :foxaylove:

The latter please and thank you :gaycat6: I’m definitely overthinking it, especially since I haven’t written a song in 1-2 years. I guess I just don’t know how to get the ball rolling.

Here's a few of my songs I submitted in past seasons that fit this challenge

the song doesn't need to be named after a city, i just tend to do that :biblio:

Aah, thank you! Reading those songs actually answered another concern I had. I wanted to write a love song, but I was overthinking the challenge so much that I convinced myself that I had to be literal and write about traveling somewhere and nothing else :deadbanana:

No no, Golden Hit challenges are merely to assist with inspiration, guide you in a specific direction. Never feel confined, and if you ever have any questions, definitely ask and we'll be happy to clarify! Often non-linear interpretations are even more well-received than literal ones, as long as there's an essence of longing and elements that transport us to a specific place, you really can't go wrong here.

@JonginBey Following Jackson's wonderful writing examples, here are some of my own as additional inspiration for anyone still on the fence of whether to submit or not, or just unsure where to begin:

My first two examples are both inspired by Italy, my third was inspired by my childhood home with some elements written in Spanish, and my last example written earlier this year was inspired by Turkey.

Fun fact: "Positano" and "El Orfanato" were written in the same week for the final challenge of Diamond Hit. 💎

I also wrote a song last year loosely inspired by Pompeii, but that's part of an unreleased project I'm still working on. :matty:
