Apologies for not addressing your interest to join the game earlier as we were mid-live results show, but definitely consider submitting! As Jackson has already let you know, this tournament is a bit different to other ATRL games in that anyone can join at any time until the sixth and final round, and this season we're even giving writers a chance to miss a week without it impacting their chances of winning so—I guess round one was your week!

 

This week's challenge is Spooky Tunes (think Halloween-esque anthems, whatever that means to you). Next week it will be something different again, and as long as you meet the general vibe or criteria that is chosen for that particular week, the rest of the song's elements and direction are always completely up to you.

If I'm being completely honest, the sushi lyric wasn't even bad—it was just misplaced within this song. If you were writing a sensual Japanese-inspired sex bop, the sushi lyric could have been an escargot-level standout! And yes, results should usually happen at the same time each week. This results show was a day later than anticipated, but generally it's going to be ~3 days after the challenge deadline.

Going to start work on the hit tokens for the top three writers of last round's Wanderlust challenge in a few.  If you won one, hopefully you declared what you were after clearly in the submission form!

just submitted the halloween one! this was really hard cause scary songs r kinda tacky in a way lmfao

do the lyrics have to be deep and sentimental to get top 3? or can they be fun and not poetic

winning songs have been deep and sentimental, fun, poppy, camp, sensual, whatever. i think great writing can come in many different forms!

I'm blanking so hard. It's frustrating because...in a way, I know exactly what I want to do this round. I have a title and a concept with ideas I'd like to touch on. I'm just worried it's not going to really be...enjoyable to read? Not that all art has to be "enjoyable", but I think the vibe it'd give off is "annoyance" more than any discomfort, sadness, etc.

 

I do know we always talk about writing for yourself first but myself wants to not come across as annoying.

I think we should do a back-up discord cause ATRL was supposed to be down for an upgrade (it was for like, 10 minutes) but looks like it got postponed.

where did you see that? how long is it supposed to be down for? i don’t have a discord  but good idea to have a backup if it’s going to be down for a long period of time

It happened a few hours ago. Khalyan in the Survivor discord said it was supposed to take a while but it looks like it got suddenly canceled.

Thank you! ATRL went down not too long after I posted that message, so I didn't have a chance to follow up on this.

I would say go with your gut instinct. If you think your song might be lyrically strong but isn't displaying the emotional characteristics you're hoping to evoke, it's possible us judges will feel that way too. Or it could just be paranoia!

We had a couple of Discord servers for various ATRL writing tournaments in the past, I can't speak for the second one but the first one didn't really go well for various reasons depending on who you ask... my main issue was that people weren't really being respectful of not posting off-topic/NSFW stuff in the general channels in the potential presence of minors and I got called a dictator for wanting to enforce that.  Anyways, I'd like to think that the GH community isn't like that anymore and would be more understanding of what's appropriate and what isn't.

 

I do actually already have a Golden Hit Discord server set up which we've used for planning/image hosting and such. Perhaps I'll consider repurposing that as a general GH server if that's something people feel is necessary?

Well, I got 2/3 tokens completed before work... you can thank @Hug for making me painstakingly remove a background and resize his image, as well as adjust my default settings—only the very best for our winner! But these tokens are looking amazing so I hope they will be worth the wait.  In the meantime if you had any special square in mind @fountain I'll be happy to accomodate when I get home from work tonight, otherwise I'll literally just emboss a square if that's what you want haha. 🔲

I don’t mind a basic square  but if you find something a little fancier and what to try that, I don’t mind either way, your tokens always look great so I trust your vision 🙏🏼

The way this should be an easy challenge but I can't do **** for ****. Reminding me of the time last season where a challenge was practically made for me but I just couldn't make it work in that round.

 

ATP I'm just gonna pump out the worst **** you'd ever seen and send it, and if I think of something better before the deadline I'll resubmit but it's looking unlikely

I have a feeling I'm not getting the token I want this week, so I'm posting my man Yuri from Shadow Hearts (PS2 game). I love him so much.

 

 

This not even being fan art kills me. They just threw this into the middle of Shadow Hearts: Covenant to throw a bone to the gays that managed to power through all the homophobia in that game.
