Following the dramatic events of tribal council, you start feeling a bit drowsy. The room fades to black.

 

Upon waking, you notice a strange silence around you. It appears that the other contestants are no longer nearby. You get up and rush to the door of this room, but find that it is locked from the outside. You are trapped... alone.

 

 

ESCAPOLOGY

This round, a new form of magic will enter the game. Each of you will be emulating one of the most adrenaline-filled magic acts in history: that of the escape artist.

 

Here's how it works...

 

You have been whisked away from all of the channels in the server. You will only have access to a channel called "yourname-escapes". This is your solitary confinement for the next 30 hours.

 

During this time, you will not be able to communicate with any other player in the game. This includes through DIRECT MESSAGES! If someone contacts you in the game, please inform the hosts and they will receive a punishment for breaking the rules.

 

INSTRUCTIONS
In order to escape solitary confinement, you must solve the numeric passcode assigned to your name. This passcode is a four-digit number (0000-9999).

 

During the next 30 hours, you will launch your escape attempt as follows:

1) In your escape channel, type in /stopwatch to start your time. Once it starts, your can NOT stop your stopwatch -- so be ready to guess your number continuously.

2) You will then guess your passcode with the following format, changing the number each time (it must be in separate posts):

HINTS
- Before the challenge begins, the hosts will reveal one number to you. The position will not be revealed.
- During the challenge, you will have the option to participate in a puzzle. This will give you a second number in your passcode. Again, the position will not be revealed. If you wish to do the puzzle, please type in !escapepuzzle.

 

REWARDS AND PUNISHMENTS
- The person who is the fastest to escape (from stopwatch start to end) will win a prize!
- If you fail to escape within 30 hours - by 11:30 PM EST on Tuesday, November 14 - you will be punished. You will lose your vote at the next tribal council you attend.

Castaways, welcome to the seventh challenge of Survivor: ATRL Edition (Season 14)!

Immunity is back up for grabs. Let’s get started!

 

The theme for Round 7 is...

The Reaper Knocks...

"I'm alive by the skin of my teeth"

As you each attempt to escape your solitary confinement, you will also be channeling your experience into a musical form! We are looking for songs that discuss escaping from a near-death experience. The narrator is still alive (barely) and looking back at their chaotic dodging of the Grim Reaper. The source of impending death can be anything; for example, some ideas include: an accident, addiction, a stunt gone wrong. As long as it is clear that there was danger and the risk of death. This round, the judges will also take sonic/production elements into account. Songs that have tension and drama which show the stress of the near-death experience will excel.

 

 

What To Do:
Once your song is selected, PM both of the hosts the artist and title of your song on Discord in our group DM. You don't have to include a link to the song unless you are sending a specific version of it. There's no explanation needed as your song should speak for itself. If your song requires an explanation to make sense, it's not a good fit.

 

There are many of you playing this game. You guys are bound to submit the same songs at some point and because no one can occupy the same song, we encourage you to send a back-up choice along with your first pick. This applies especially to those who are not around when a round is posted and don't have the luxury of choosing an instant track.

 

IMPORTANT NOTE: ONCE YOU SEND A SONG THAT IS AVAILABLE, YOUR CHOICE IS LOCKED AND YOU MAY NOT SWITCH. AGAIN, YOU CANNOT SWITCH SONGS. IF SOMEONE TAKES YOUR SONG FIRST, THAT IS WHEN YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SUBMIT A NEW ONE, SO PLEASE SUBMIT A BACK-UP.

 

Take Into Consideration:
The panel will judge the audio/lyrics of the track you submit. Music videos will not increase or decrease your score as some music video plots differ from a song's true meaning.

The theme is what is important here. You will not receive a low score because you sent in a song one of the judges does not like. Taste will at the most be the difference between an 8.5 or a 9. We will never dock off multiple points based off mere preference.

The song you choose should display the meaning upfront. An interview with your artist clarifying the meaning of the song will not be taken into consideration.

 

Judging Scale (May Vary By Judge):
9/10 – Great entry. Track displays the theme given head on.
8 – Good entry. Displays theme well but not as well as others.
7 – Okay entry. Fits decently but is missing something overall.
6 – Somewhat tackles the theme but falls flat.
5 – Track mentions theme but is otherwise off–base.
3/4 – Song does not hit the theme given besides a line or two.
1/2 – Song has to do with a completely different subject than the theme.

 

We will supply an example for each round for you all to take inspiration from. Obviously no one can select this song as their entry.

 

The example for this round is "Skin of My Teeth" by Demi Lovato.

 

 

 

In this powerhouse punk song, Demi reflects on their near death experience. The most important lyrical aspect here is that they did indeed survive. They escaped from the Reaper. The production is loud and tense throughout - expressing the turbulent experience of escaping death. The sonic elements in the bridge are also quite notable, building suspense and anxiety through vocal distortion until Demi powerfully proclaims the ultimate lyric - "I'm alive!"

What we can reveal is that the fastest time was 32 minutes and that person will be given a prize. Everyone else either gets nothing or they have lost a vote at the next tribal council they attend.

You will be going back to your same tribe as before. As done in round 3, BOTH tribes will be attending Tribal Council and will be voting someone to leave within those tribes. However, one person voted out will not really be voted out.

 

Each tribe will vote someone out, and we’ll announce the votes of the tribes that are not safe. One tribe will receive immunity, based on the scores. If that tribe is safe, their votes will not be read.

 

In addition, if a tribe ends up at Tribal Council and votes for the person on the tribe with the highest average in the round, who therefore received immunity, then any votes cast for that person will be negated and the person with the next highest votes will be voted out.

 

Votes are due in 24 hours, at 11:59 PM EST tomorrow (Wednesday). You will cast your vote on Discord via the same DM you use to send your songs. Please don't forget to include a bootlist because, if you don't vote, you'll incur a self-vote. Otherwise, everyone is at risk…until tomorrow night. Good luck!
