swiftawaywithme Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 I hope 2024 is a blowout election not for either party in particular but for younger interests. It's becoming increasingly obvious that the young are not tolerating America's capitalistic BS anymore.

Why do you think each year the American Congress just passes funding in the billions of dollars for the US Military as if it's as simple as changing some numbers on a screen? Because it is basically as simple as changing some numbers on a screen. 1
getBusy Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 If i see a single republican agree with this but complain about student loan forgiveness i’ll f*cking 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

chessguy99 Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 They can do this because the debt is essentially uncollectable. Businesses can go into bankruptcy, and get the loan discharged. People with student loans can go into bankruptcy, but it is very difficult to get the student loan debt discharged.

Despite a Government Accounting Office study that showed government backed student loans having a high default rate(18%), less than 1% were discharged in bankruptcy. Congress disregarded the findings, and added the restrictions. It was a solution to a perceived problem that didn't actually exist.

Sadly, there are still so many who need help. This is a good thing. Now reverse the forgiveness for the members of Congress and other wealthy people who took advantage of the program.
besaid Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 As they should! The lockdowns destroyed business for millions of people and they should be paid back in full for the losses and loans they were forced to incur. Not the same as student loans where no one forced anyone to rack up 100k in debt for a useless degree (or worse, no degree). You borrowed it willingly and knowingly (hello promissory note!), its' not right to not pay those back.

Yea, and the owners of the business are not financially liable to pay any of the business’ debt if it goes bankrupt either. It’s insane that this loophole works for businesses but for avg people, you’re screwed.

We already witnessed it when they gave those checks and loans in 2020 and 2021. Now we need strict fiscal policy for the rest of the decade otherwise the importance of dollar decreases worldwide. 1

The current holes in the economy are due to the lack of revenue due to a lack of new taxes Biden completely failed by not undoing the Trump tax cuts and running on "no new taxes".
