sunbathinganimal Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 not even the best album released that month
BGKC Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 (edited) I mean as a pop album (in recent memory) it makes sense. It’s a safe title to pin. It’s just crazy how much more competition there was in the 2000s by comparison that could take that title. Edited October 14, 2023 by BGKC
Anvarie Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 I don’t think a single black person would say that, but alright

Folklore or Norman F***ing Rockwell would probably win now. OT: I wouldn't go that far.

Mystic Boy Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 What an insult.....with all the outstanding albums released this century This is getting so out of hands 1
Badgalbriel Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 If not 1989, then only 21 and TFM would be the competition. 1 1

EMO.TION.LESS literally has nothing. Not even substantial critical acclaim - the absolute minimum you'd expect from a flop record to justify its claim to best anything. MingYouToo Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 (edited) 1989 is a capstone album of the 21st century but THEE album of the century? Honestly I think that title belongs to The Fame by Lady Gaga. It defined the turning point of the century so well and was zany, eclectic, and truly set itself apart from the big 90s, 80s, 70s album. A good written and produced album like 1989 could be found in droves from the 90s and 80s, Teenage Dream alone is a good example, a good ballad filled album like 21/25 is produced en masse yearly, 21 was a crazy commercial phenom but it did not stir the pot at ALL. Rap albums are great but I doubt a single rap album is enough to define a century, closest would be The E.N.D. but even then its basically an EDM-rap album. Britney's music is great but her sound is still derivative of existing ones before her and isn't really cut to perfection. But The Fame? Gaga's brand of imagery and crazy pop sounds at the time were truly very novel during 2008-2010. I'd say its the album of the century, not 1989. Edited October 15, 2023 by MingYouToo
Mornings Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 This is screaming paid marketing for her Taylors Version release. 2 1

The original was only the 3rd best selling album of the '10s decade and it sold in the double digits, like calm down Edited October 15, 2023 by Soda Pop Queen 1
Lemon Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 (edited) All of a sudden, 1989 not actually being the best selling album of the century also being one of the top con arguments here among users that usually “don’t care about numbers”. Anyway, I believe pro arguments for this claim objectively do exist ( obviously ), and I support it, but I, for one, wouldn’t know which album to pick as the one. Edited October 15, 2023 by Lemon
Winged Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 Not even of that year it come out let alone century
