FOCK Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 (edited) Hot Girl Meg recently jumped on a live to explain that her next project is entirely self funded, as the battle to break ties with 1501 continues. “I’m an independent artist right now, I have no label”, she explained to a number of fans ranging from 84-77, “so hotties, do your big one!” Interestingly, she also expressed no desire to sign with another label, even after things have resolved, at least for a while. Prodigal Self Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 Labels sucking artists dry will always be a bad thing btw 1

I definitely think she has enough of an established brand/name to find moderate success & actually keep whatever she earns in her own pockets, so I hope it works out.

glitch Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 I love to see more women ditching the major label system Her best work has been her mixtapes (including Something for thee hotties) so I think this will be a good direction for her. 1

Bussea Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 I feel like more artists should be independent so I’m happy for her Cant wait to hear a record with her full artistic vision
Cbreezy Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 Can someone please explain her current situation? I thought she was free of 1501 with Traumazine? Is this technically her last project before she can go on to sign with a major? Narratively speaking, I hate that her first post-trial project is gonna be sans the machine. We know it won't sell and I hope it doesn't harm her hype going into a major label deal.
Abracadabra Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 So is she out of her contract with 1501 but can't sign to another label yet?

And since people see Roc Nation as a crutch, Tinashe and others are signed to them as well. You still need that rather you're independent or major.

After subsequent pushbacks on 1501s side and Megan missing ONE court date cause she was sick, they pushed it back to March. Megan is still owed royalties and reimbursement for things she's been paying out of pocket for since 2019. Carl was going to settle, he then somehow fires and hires a whole new legal team who further tied this up. 1
