Why are people saying she never took risks with her career...  CTMH-M!SS-TT-IND are all very risky for different reasons. And while the FH-TTAL-BT run was more safe she still evolved and ignored whatever trendy genre was dominating at the time of their release.

 

On another note - I don't dislike H2BH nor Trustfall and I don't think the quality decreased that much. It's just so clear she's less inspired and it kinda takes away from the experience as a stan, if that makes sense?

 

1) Tours - she completely ignored H2BH having only performed 3 songs from it regurarly (none of them even made it on this tour). With Trustfall it's a bit better but she's already ditched Kids in Love and she's been skipping Last Call, Runaway and Irrelevant all the time lately too... Let's not about the SC tour being lowkey a recycled version of BT in the first place

2) The way she speaks about her music  "Oh, it's my 9th album? It feels like it's the 40th"... Girl... She's very silly and doesn't serve any depth when being interviewed about her own music (WIGT being a lovely exception). She hardly even remembers her older stuff. The "guess the song" game is honestly embarassing cause she can't win for her life even though he's playing the same 10 songs over and over again. I have PTSD from when she said "I don't know that one" after seeing a fan requesting I'm Not Dead. Does that sound like somebody passionate about their art?

3) Writing - I don't need an artist to write in general, but she always underlined how important it was for her to write her own music and how she needed a way to express herself. And suddenly she goes from writing on almost 100% of every album since M!ss to writing on less than half of Trustfall? If that doesn't say "I don't care anymore, I've let go" then I don't know what does...

 

So all in all, I don't think it's the "quality" of H2BH/Trustfall but the overall attitude towards her art (represented by the 3 points above) that makes the projects seem weaker and uninspired.

Can I just ask, have you ever considered it’s not about whether she cares about writing her own songs, but maybe she just doesn’t feel like she was at her best lately? There’s an expectation she should release an album every few years, and she wants to tour and she’s getting older. Every time she starts an album cycle, she often talks about not being sure if she’s going to be any good at writing anymore. She said that right before writing the truth about love (song) and was clearly wrong. But my feeling with trustfall was that she tried and came away thinking that “most of this is bad and maybe I need to humble myself and just recognise that these other songs are better than mine”. She even made a joke about her mums favourite song on TTAL being try which was the only song not written by her. So I think rather than jumping to conclusions about her not caring, maybe just put yourself in someone’s shoes who is expected to deliver time after time but is human.

I just think that somebody as insanely talented as she is can (co-)write 13 good songs in 4 years, even if some days are worse than others. But as I said, I don't need her to write at all. It's just that the drop being so big from nearly 100% to less than 50% is so striking, it's like she gave up and went the "easier" way.

 

But anyway, if that was the only symptom we probably wouldn't be discussing it in the first place

I think this is a very good point! And maybe you are right! She's human and she can be very self-conscious
