I think p4k being so lukewarm about this, and her music in general, just highlights how they really aren't tastemakers anymore. They would have eaten up an album like this 10 years ago.

Anyway, this is a great debut from her and def one of the best pop albums to come out this year. True Romance and Feel Complete are highlights.

beyond that it's the fact the entire review is praise but the score doesn't match at all. the same thing happened with lahai the other week

Working with a cast of new collaborators—including pop industry staples like Greg Kurstin and producers with roots in the underground, like PC Music’s Danny L. Harle—she transforms her jittery, emotional miniatures into pop songs that feel more extroverted, more joyful, and sometimes more complete.

Quote

the song—which casts a similar nocturnal glow as early ’00s R&B—feels more fully realized, with gleaming production choices and a more emphatic vocal delivery. Throughout the record, she excises any hesitance or half steps: She embraces the fluorescent confidence of newfound stardom.

Quote

Heaven knows flexes her abilities as a writer, producer, and curator of guest spots (Kelela and Rema’s appearances add crackling energy to “Bury me” and “Another life,” respectively). But part of what separates her from nostalgia-pop peers like piri & tommy or Yunè Pinku was a willingness to lurk in the shadows of the club, letting quiet overtones hang heavy over the tracks

nothing they wrote indicates a 6.4. i don't mind the score at all but at least justify it

This is AOTY :jonny5: The songs are huge growers as well, at first I thought this is really different and uses very uncommon melodies but now I'm addicted to every single track :jonny5:

Ophelia, The Aisle, Feelings, and Blue are my favorites upon first listen :heart2: Can't wait to stream this all winter, she rarely disappoints

Not her sneaking AOTY at the end of year :jonny4: no skips on this album. Amazing production, lyrics, melodies. I can’t stop playing Feel complete omg

It's kinda insane how great this album is. Fadfork and the few others mega missed with those reviews. It's a perfect evolution of her former more DIY sound, she went through the exact same kind of transformation as Magdalena Bay when they dropped Mercurial World, both excellent projects.

I'm kinda gagged at the praise this album is getting (especially the Feel Complete stanning) fghjklm

I'm really a fan from her early TikTok days and I was floored by how good Capable Of Love was but maybe it set the bar a little too high because I'm not feeling the project as a whole.

Maybe it'll grow on me. Feelings is the only song that truly shook me, I keep replaying it, it's such a captivating song. It kinda gives ITZ/Blackout vibes. She is also a ******* genius for using her voice on BNX's producer tag in Burry Me :clap3:

aisle and another life are 11/10. kelela felt uneventful in bury me. ophelia is a grower. feel complete is a 9/10.

the album has no skips.

this kinda gagged me because I wasn't expecting this. though it's far from AOTY, it's a very very solid debut with some stellar tracks on it.

10/10 album.

However, where is the Ophelia praise? The lyrics are so sad/dark compared to the angelic production. Amazing.
