I hope you never fall in love with a narcissist. It's easier than you think to be manipulated into loving someone that blames you for everything. It also chips at yourself esteem year after year. The problem is that it doesn't happen right away. Falling in love with your abuser isn't just a female trait. 

 

I don't know if this is what's happened to him or what their situation is. But yes you can be so mentally depleted that you can allow those things to happen and still be in love. Especially if you already come from a damaged childhood.

I believe they truly love each other, even through all of the mess and drama. When you've shared so many years with someone, especially, it's hard to let it go—even if you feel, or even know, that you deserve better than what they're offering. They've shared a life with each other for so long and to have to start over with someone new is a scary thing, to the point where you do stay in a situation like this because it's familiar and, virtually, all that you know.

 

Whatever figuring it out is for them, I hope it brings them genuine peace and happiness.
