Charli XCX & Sam Smith - "In the City"

This literally could've just stayed a solo song. Watch even with the Sam Smith feature that this will have no bridge or final chorus and be under 3 minutes pass

i actually think, *hear me out*, Carly Rae Jepsen would’ve been a much better choice for this feature. it would’ve complimented her voice so much better.

Wait you’re absolutely right :rip:

I mean, Charli and Carly already collaborated on Backseat, so your take isn't that crazy.

What is wrong with Sam? I swear if they were skinny yall would be idolizing them. They make good music and are super talented, and they’re pushing boundaries

I don’t care what they look like, I just absolutely despise the voice. It’s like nails on a chalkboard to me.

Their voice is not suitable for light, fluffy pop songs, sorry. Vocals are way too hearty and gargle-y.

What are you exactly are you getting at? Do you mean soft pop songs with light productions because Sam has tons of those, especially with album tracks of Love Goes & Gloria.

hey, i like Sam! i feel (personally) that not every song compliments their voice/tone tho. from the snippet i heard, it sounded like it’s not in their natural vocal range.

however, people are fatphobic af towards them. but mind you, people also gave her **** for collaborating with Troye.

Wow, how groundbreaking for Charli! Was worried that after how I’m feeling now that she was going to ditch her forward thinking pop sensibility with Crash and I was only half right! Maybe this time she’s coming to finish the job.

that new chorus snippet... yeah this slaps

It’s very intriguing to witness the backlash from Charli fans for this particular collaboration, from what I gather, the main problem besides the usual Sam Smith hate train, Sam being an mainstream artist collaborating with Charli XCX, who’s more niche & experimental..

Don't listen to them, they sniffed too many poppers.

I’m so sad. I was hoping their parts would be completely separate. Sam‘s vocals are excreting all over Char‘s.

So did Sam. They’re addicted to them.

No, we just want a dignified quality artist with a beautiful voice of any stature.

Sam may not be up to your standards, but obviously Charli is the one that wanted Sam on this single, she’s the one that appreciates grammy talent
