ATRL Moderator wehavetostan Posted October 5, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted October 5, 2023 Music can be a creative outlet for artists to release their emotions. Many artists have released their most critically acclaimed works during, or shortly after, excruciating life events. An example of this is Ariana Grande, who released Sweetener and thank u, next in 2018 and 2019 respectively. Sweetener won Best Pop Vocal Album at the Grammys and thank u, next was ranked as of the best albums of that year. What other examples can you think of? 3
suburbannature Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 Mariah - Daydream, Butterfly Lana - Ultraviolence
BrokenMachine Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 Demi with Tell Me You Love Me. Her best album ever, but she was feeling so bad that she ended up in her infamous OD 1
ATRL Moderator Ampersand13 Posted October 5, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted October 5, 2023 Avril managing to simultaneously write about her divorce while working with him on Goodbye Lullaby adds a palpable emotional layer to a good portion of that record in my opinion. Kesha with Rainbow. An artistic triumphant that demonstrated her perseverance and spirit unapologetically. Paramore with self-titled and After Laughter the latter especially. 1

ithinkheknowsoutsold Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 Kylie Minogue released Impossible Princess in early 1998, when she was struggling with depression, rumours of eating disorders, and constant tabloid scrutiny. The album even led to her being dropped by her label, but is now considered one of her strongest efforts. 1
holyground13 Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 Ariana Grande first popped into my mind because she said 2018 was the most successful yet hardest year of her life. Sweetener and Thank U, Next are probably her best works. I feel like it's difficult to assess the hardest time in an artist's life unless they specifically state it (like Ariana), but Janet and Britney created their best work while undergoing hardships (The Velvet Rope and Blackout).
GoodGuyGoneGhetto Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 (edited) Michael Jackson: HIStory. •The xes abuse allegations were still fresh. •The tour sponsors he had since the “BAD” era dropped him. •The American press had just started referring to him as “Peter Pan: The Boy Who Never Grew Up” and were psycho-analysing his every move. •Tommy Mottola started his own, personal, negative campaign about him. He had once chance… Edited October 5, 2023 by GoodGuyGoneGhetto 1
