And the biggest cause of deforestation is cattle farming. Cattle farming is also the biggest cause of destruction of the Amazon rainforest - a hellavalot more trees being destroyed (and older) than this one. 

 

We’re not in disagreement. I never claimed it was an ok thing to do - just that those calling for severe punishment & death, should get a clue, & have taken their apparent concern and moral standing, to its logical conclusion.
 

The level of dissonance people engage with when confronted by the ramifications of their own behaviour and hypocrisy, is always fascinating. It’s apparent they’d much rather pass judgement on others, even children, than make a simple connection or invite an opportunity for self reflection. 

I have to clarify again, I never said the teen deserves death. But just a very severe punishment and years in jail.

But one is a system and industry with millennial of time and another is a psychopath with a lot of malice out there.

 

Just because there is a system out there more evil than this teen it doesn’t mean we should ignore this incident.

 

I do agree with everything else and we do need introspection about the evil system killing innocent animals and responsible of deforestation.

Having my "AITA" moment because I can't decipher if the people suggesting he should do prison time equivalent to that of rapists and murderers are just being hyperbolic or not? Like... cultural significance or whatever aside, it's a tree... pretty sure it will grow back, or if they are that desperate to save this particular tree, they can surely graft them together?

 

It's certainly an idiotic and highly questionable thing to do, but not something that should elicit such a malicious reaction from people. If y'alls first thoughts are death threats (on a minor, no less) when faced with something relatively trivial in the grand scheme of things... it might be time to look inward.
