I’m sure it’s not all but a lot of Starbucks baristas get on my nerves. I make similar wages as them and rarely get tipped. They’re constantly getting tips with their stupid drive thru thing yet complain about everything and having to actually do their job. They get some of the best benefits of anyone in any similar job too. I really can’t stand them.

Like, I’ll tip in a restaurant because of the service provided, if the waiters were nice and knowledgeable

The person making my coffee and handing it over to me is already getting paid for doing exactly that

Tipping threads are always a mess. Americans defending their slave culture always surprises me.

Like if you only have enough or poor, you have no right to dine in restaurants, get coffee or ask for delivery.

Most people live on a budget. I think it’s okay to just charge a service fee so people know upfront what will they pay.

Americans are really stupid. They let the big corps suck them dry and turn on each other

I only tip if I’m really happy for the service they provided me.

I wouldn’t be caught buying coffee at Starbucks let alone tipping a barista. I rather support a local coffee shop instead.

I mean, the logic is that they often have to make complicated, custom orders not on the menu.

This isn't odd though and the shock and horror by some Europeans is a bit tiring. Most of these places before the electronic option literally just had a bucket or box you could put loose change or a single in after your order if desired.

The way digital payments have gotten rid of people paying in cash means this is just trying to keep up with the times so people who want to tip a dollar by rounding up can.

Eh? I'm all for taking down big corpoerations and refuse to go to chain coffees stores for this reason (as well as the fact it's usually trash) but lets not act like this person didn't make an active choice to steal off customers, most of whom are everyday people. Regardless of circumstances, you have to also accept personal responsibility too.

*restaurants* are where employees make like $100 on a two week paycheck and essentially live off their tips

What in the 4th World Country is that??

You're probably exaggerating but why put the burden to the customers? Tips should be voluntary, not compulsory

Most likely we would have to tip your landlord next. This American tipping culture is turning cancerous. Imagine justifying theft just because some entilted themselves some "tips".

You think you can cool it with going through my posts and downvoting them all? You have some serious issues stalking my account and downvoting random comments, and then making fun of my trauma.

The reasons why tipping is becoming more common in the US is because after the pandemic people became more cautious about the jobs they chose. We have people in this same post encouraging these baristas to get a better job but then when they do that it's not the business that suffers but rather the customers themselves because now they have to train new employees and the wait times are going to be longer. Now it's more common to see stores run on a skeleton crew because customers don't treat employees right. So in reality, youre not tipping the cashier just for ringing you up. That cashier most likely has other duties and responsibilities in the store and they're doing a lot more than you realize to keep the business rolling. That's why everywhere I go nowadays is slow as ****. Because yall suck as customers.

As an industry professional: this happens far more often than indicated in this article. It is never okay and any employee caught doing this will be terminated from any company they work for. This is an unfortunate case of “happens regularly but caught everyone’s attention”. There are always assholes that work in restaurants/bars/customer service that will try to pull this ****. We recently had to fire an individual who was trying to implement gratuity on any table he didn’t think would tip well. This whole situation is unfortunate and can be fixed for the victims but does lead to a larger conversation about tippable minimum wage and employers providing a livable minimum wage.

While I DO encourage everyone to check their receipts, I do NOT encourage individuals to punish servers/bartenders/baristas by not tipping them. Contact your state representatives and talk to them about tippable minimum wage. Do not punish the tipped employees for making their living in a system they do not have any say over.

but the tipping discourse is unbearable. europeans are so insufferable and say the same **** every time in these threads :toofunny2: we get it! you don’t tip, racism doesn’t exist, you don’t get circumcised, you have bidets and the sun shines out your asses. absolutely no one cares

That's not true at all.

Starbucks coffee in the US is more like a milkshake here in Europe. Some are a full meal. Most of them are between 6 and 8 dollars.
