Starbucks barista exposed adding own $2-3 tip when customer doesn’t want receipt

the arguments in here when tips aren’t even obligatory at coffee shops in America :rip: I definitely don’t always tip at coffee shops, *restaurants* are where employees make like $100 on a two week paycheck and essentially live off their tips

the scammer is wrong but the girl is stupid for taking that long to notice and ordering an $8 drink everyday in the first place

Unless you’re broke and obsessively watching your debit transactions on what you spend, nobody is going to check to see if their Starbucks order came out correctly.

Starbucks allowed this by even opting into this tip business. Luckily the ones near me have stopped doing it. I’m sure it had a response from customers. Their employees make $15-16+ an hour.

I’m tired of some people justifying theft

Like this is theft, defending this kind of behavior would take society to total chaos

I know corporations don’t pay livable wages in America, but this is not the way to fight for a change

Bar and restaurants owners in America must be laughing when they see people direct their anger towards the customers who are unwilling to tip instead of blaming the employers (a.k.a. the real source of the problem) for not giving their employees a decent salary.

this is stealing.

but the tipping discourse is unbearable. europeans are so insufferable and say the same **** every time in these threads :toofunny2: we get it! you don’t tip, racism doesn’t exist, you don’t get circumcised, you have bidets and the sun shines out your asses. absolutely no one cares

If you’re paying for a 10$ drink, I’m sure you have disposable money to tip 2-3$ ¯\(ツ)/¯

Stay on topic. Plenty of people tip starbucks employees. This is about THEFT.

what’s the tea on sugar free? aren’t new studies showing that it spikes sugar levels more and can actually lead to diabetes? :bird:

It’s complicated - from what I’ve read, most sugar-free sweeteners don’t cause significant rises in blood glucose levels, but the real issue is actually that they can cause an increase in appetite in some consumers. That means you’re potentially more likely to consume more calories and sugars overall. It’s not a silver bullet and you still have to exercise caution. For me, the milk in the coffees that I order still contains some sugar, so I don’t have any other added sugar most days - if I did, then I’d just be packing on pounds unless I burned the excess calories pretty aggressively. I’ve even considered ceasing the habit because it’s probably affecting my appetite and making me eat more. But sugar-free sweeteners are probably safe if used wisely and in proper moderation - but if anyone here has better medical knowledge and contradicts what I’m saying, then listen to them and not me, I’m just someone who’s read about it a few times.

Or...you know...maybe Starbucks could like...actually pay genuinely liveable salaries so that their employees don't feel the need to commit literal fraud on customers.

I'm sure Starbucks has disposable money too!

I was actually shading Starbucks and their culture + the tipping culture in the US.

I used to work there too, not in the US though.

the way y’all are letting me have it :deadbanana4: maybe I should have been more precise by adding that in no way I’m justifying theft but when employees get to that point, there is obviously a problem from within. Like waiters literally live off of tips :rip:

Also, I don’t even think that particular person is getting all the stolen tips anyway, it probably goes into the ether or Starbucks management and then is “divided”

Well considering the company is union busting, giving their employees pathetic hours and exposing them to unsafe work conditions in this economy and then on top of that the customers do annoying tone deaf pay it forward moments without tipping the baristas..... not surprised! :foxaylove:I actually don't get coffee from Starbucks anymore after learning all that, best get something local until the company get its **** together.

Thank you for sharing! I actually went down a rabbit hole since this post lmao and indeed it does appear that the recent studies are much fear mongering. A lot of it are tested on animals and the dosages are entirely unhinged that no human would actually ingest that much in one sitting, let alone in their life times. I was asking because I use lots of stevia and monk fruit in place of sugar as I cut it out for more than a few years now, but I would seldomly use sugar-free replacements because of the continuous studies. Unfortunately tho, going into the rabbit hole has caused me to actually believe the Sugar industry and Milk industry are both behind these weird studies as more people are waking up and cutting those substances out.

anyways, thanks!
