It's not a good Gwen Stefani album and specially after a 10 years hiatus but it's a good pop album

She keeps wasting her fountain of youth. Please call Pharrell , London on the Track and Max Martin and give us BOPS!

That we know of very recently, Jack and Coke and Dianne Warren...some rumors of Cirkut and Madison Love too.

She has been promising this to us for like 3 years or so

Also, I think it's pretty much safe to say that the "full ska/reggae-popfusion" inspired album is totally scrapped, right?

I hate her if so

She needs to realize she'll never see LAMB kind of success again. I don't think she has it in her to deliver a solid body of work anymore since she's so out of touch as a person and seemingly so much more insecure about flopping but she needs to at least try and make a good album without commercial expectations.

I thought that was what This Is What The Truth Feels Like exactly was

and it was a pretty good one actually! but i didn’t like any song of hers that came out after it :dancehall:

I think it's a bit of a double-edged sword that her last album was surprisingly successful (#1 on the Billboard 200). As happy as I was for her, I feel like that might've given her/the label a bit of an unrealistic expectation about what she can actually achieve commercially in the streaming age. She's not gonna get another Hollaback Girl, especially not by trying to force it (*cough* Spark The Fire *cough* Slow Clap). She should just finally put out whatever music she has written and recorded, because no matter how insecure she seems to feel about her solo output, she's an incredibly talented songwriter with an amazing ear for catchy melodies. Nobody can put emotion into song form like Gwen Stefani.

this i partially agree with.  she's had that lightning-in-bottle HIT moment enough times that if she doesn't get it, she squirrels away and takes all her nuts with her. it's infuriating as a long-time fan... but when she has those brilliant moments like Used to Love You, Hard 2 Love, Baby Don't Lie, Start a War, Loveable etc.. you just forgive her instantly because when she's good she's SO good at conveying emotion with such a unique vocal.

if she would just trust herself more, like 80% of what she puts out turns into gold over time and the girls are literally always inspired by her.

that said, i would never underestimate that she can't get a stadium-stomping hit again.  her career is so unpredictable and being married has given her such joy and light and fire that it'll be pretty amazing to see what comes out of it when she actually does get the album together.

Let Me Reintroduce Myself was fire and Slow Clap was cute, idc what anyone says.  the reasons listed it to bash it are cheesy, cutesy, would be played in an Old Navy ad.  AND? that's exactly what kind of song it's trying to be, cocky-cute, grateful and accessible. Gwen and No Doubt have always done that vibe too. (Hey You, Rich Girl, Now That you Got it, Spark the Fire).

(ps. everybody always barks about her needing Pharrell, uh that was Spark the Fire, where were you then?? watch it be a tiktok smash tomorrow.)

Gwen critique is always so stupid and bandwagon and she never gets enough respect in real time because she's never a diva about getting it. the only scandal you can get from her is she loves and admires other cultures so much she blends them into her personal style.  OH NO!  she could easily have a huge renaissance again just like Kylie is now and there's no one more deserving. she's such a sweet little legend and one of pop music's biggest trendsetters, period. i wish she'd bring some of her ass kicking energy onstage into the way her career is managed and demand some flowers, but she's just not that girl.

It's honestly impossible to know tbh...True Babe was actually from quite a bit ago and around the same time as all that music she wrote and recorded...just got reworked a bit. So it's possible she's reworking some of that music as well, but who knows lol.

this. this. this. so well put.

She needs to just have more confidence, or perhaps more respect from her label?? I hope the additional business ventures she's taken on help give her more control to just do her thing because chart success or not, she knows what she's doing.

I'd also love stans to stop treating a 53 year old woman as if she's some new kid on the block that has something to prove, it's nauseating - have your doja moment gweny, cut them off

Now i lowkey hate how No Doubt comeback was a flop back in 2012

if it was a success, i'm pretty sure she would be more active as a musician than she is now :skull:

If only they released One More Summer instead of Looking Hot! 😔 then Sparkle or Easy.. LH video was the killing blow and that album has SO many good songs. Ill die on the hill Push and Shove is top 5 ND songs 💅🔥

Idk tho she talks about how hard that album was to make, sounds like the band vibe was just strained period. Everybody was starting families

Also the band haven't had release an original studio album in a decade at the time, so the pressure for must have been high for them especially for a comeback

But they realized they weren't the same like they used to anymore and they decided to be done for good

But man, I would imagine in different universe that No Doubt released multiple successful albums in the 2010s + couple of Gwen's solo albums and they about to wrap up their farewell tour at the end of 2023 :cries:

1000% there is ONE reason on earth that No Doubt isnt a Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Maroon 5.... DUDEBRO MISOGYNY. And now combine that with radio ageism, it's no wonder Gwen wants to grow wildflowers in Oklahoma and just be a wife and mom. It's still so exhausting to be a woman over 40 in pop music.
