byzantium Posted September 26, 2023 Posted September 26, 2023 Ok so ~4% of the GDP? That is a lot but definitely doable. For example, the US spends 4% of its GDP on the military. 1
pisuke Posted September 26, 2023 Posted September 26, 2023 Then let's start by taking away 99.9999999% of the wealth of the 1% and we would have enough to invest in the global warming crisis and basically any other current issue and still have something left out. Those former billionaires would still have enough to live comfortably (though they do not deserve it) for a few generations. This is the level of inequality we have reached. 1 1
ClashAndBurn Posted September 26, 2023 Posted September 26, 2023 Capitalists aren't interested in even mitigating global climate catastrophe, let alone reaching net zero. We're kinda ******, and I'm tired of the neoliberals calling acknowledging our shitty reality "dooming" when they're the reason we're going to dealing with the worst case scenario. 1
jesus del rey Posted September 26, 2023 Posted September 26, 2023 I think we will be good if we eat 1%
wastedpotential Posted September 26, 2023 Posted September 26, 2023 Well if that's what it takes, it was nice knowing y'all That's not gonna happen until it's far, far, far too late 1
DAP Posted September 26, 2023 Posted September 26, 2023 Electric cars are just as destructive to produce (and create the space for) as petrol cars. Actual solutions reduce consumption and the scale of economy/production needed to induce it and democratize the means of production for workers, but that’s not in the interest of our capitalist overlords. It’s also sick how they’ve managed to frame climate crisis as an individual problem when states and corporations are most responsible for our failing environment 2
