An entire year since Final Fantasy 16.

This is why I started playing it this month since I knew it was coming up on a year

:gaycat2:

I've been loving it so far, so I'll have to get the DLC!

Just finished FFVII Remake today and I was so confused towards the end as to what was happening :deadbanana2:

But I thoroughly enjoyed the game though. It was such a blast to play as a total FF newbie.

Spoiler

I feel like story-wise, FFVII Remake isn't newcomer friendly at all... And I don't think they even properly introduced Sephiroth, like he just suddenly appeared and started tormenting Cloud. And if I had known that the "destiny" they were talking about was basically the OG FFVII, maybe I would've played that one first :deadbanana2:

I have to say the ending of Remake was extremely confusing even for a long-time fan like me who has played the original game 15+ times, so you're not alone.

I think they intentionally made it confusing and ended on a cliffhanger so people would buy the next game, and, while I understand Remake better now that I've finished Rebirth's story, I don't think it makes Remake's story/presentation any better lol.

That being said, if you loved Remake's gameplay, you'll probably love Rebirth's! The combat is basically the same but adds three more playable characters. I think most people have liked Rebirth more than Remake, but I liked Remake better overall :suburban:

new emoji just dropped

bf18aa1ec35c233c8084d4f7204f46bae21c03fa.pnj

It was hard cropping around her hair since the background was a similar color, but I also didn't spend that long on it nnn :suburban:

Spoiler

It's much funnier at full resolution... a bit too subtle of a side-eye expression for an emoji.

I had forgotten I had this saved and I was cackling to myself when I saw it  :suburban:

Wish I could remember where I saved it from. Got no results doing reverse image search on Google and TinEye :lakitu:

Yeah, they love using Sephiroth willy-nilly in Remake cus he's so marketable now... to the detriment of the overall narrative. :rip:

The original handles his introduction to the plot with a lot more tact and restraint. :shakeno:

Crisis Core is pretty important for understanding some things in the remake, yes? I'll probably grab it with this discount, and then the Remake itself with the next one.

Holy fuq, has anyone here actually beaten Leviathan in FF16 Rising Tides? This fight's impossible :deadbanana4:

I don't remember Crisis Core's story elements coming into play at all in Remake, but I played Crisis Core eons ago on PSP, so maybe it was as good as if I had never played it by the time we got Remake lol.

If not for Remake itself, then maybe for Rebirth since

Spoiler

Zack is alive? Or is the story pretty self-sufficient, and you don't really need to know what happened in those extra games?

Spoiler

It's self-sufficient. Zack is alive in Rebirth for reasons unrelated to the story in Crisis Core.

Crisis Core focuses mostly on new characters (Angeal, Genesis, Cissnei) and plotlines that don't come into play in Remake/Rebirth. Cissnei has a small cameo in Rebirth, but doesn't affect the story at all; she's just there for fan service.

imo, the only story elements in Crisis Core that are relevant to Remake/Rebirth are elements that were already in the original game, i.e., Zack's death scene and Cloud's relationship to him. I would play it if you just really love FF7 and like button-mashing, Kingdom Hearts–like combat.

Yeah, if anything, Remake's somewhat confusing ending makes me wanna play Rebirth even more (so Square Enix was successful there). Also glad to hear they kept the same structure basically for Rebirth. Steam version when though :gaycat6:

I think I read somewhere that they didn't bother with proper introductions cos everyone was basically familiar with him already. I went in knowing he was gonna be the main villain but really, my true proper introduction to Sephiroth as a character was through Smash :rip:

I feel like I really should've played the original first. But at this point, I think I'll do that someday after finishing the reimagined trilogy.

I feel like Remake story is convoluted and confusing as hell even if you've played 7 and Crisis Core etc. lol so I don't really think it matters if you play them :rip:

Just beat FF16 :gaycat:

Using Leviathan to beat the final boss kinda felt like cheating, but oh well!

:zsgaymuscat:

I liked this game a lot overall!

The combat was fun and I liked trying out all the different Eikon abilities. Odin was kinda boring tho... I trialed his abilities in only 1 fight and never looked back. I think Shiva, Garuda, and Bahamut were my top 3 favs, but I mastered Ramuh's Judgment Bolt early and used that basically the whole game. Beautiful, beautiful graphics too

I feel that. There weren't many choices to make except whether or not to do the boring side quests or which abilities to equip/upgrade. The replay value is basically non-existent unless you just really love the combat and story.

FFXVI's setting was definitely beautiful in parts (although OMG I HATE THE CHANGE IN THE LATTER HALF iykyk), but I'm hoping for FFXVII they get a bit more out there with the setting a la FFX.  I miss Isamu Kamikokuryo's art direction :gaycat6:

I haven't spent time on the 2nd dlc yet, I want to play the whole game from the start and let the DLCs weave in.

If FF16 is Reputation then I hope FF17 is Lover.

FF16 is my favorite but the only logical follow up to me is to keep the gameplay style but set it in a world based on fairies, elves, fairy tales.

Finally playing Rebirth, on chapter 10 and it's fantastic but jesus  Yuffie is the worst written character I've ever seen anywhere. Annoying and one dimensional.
