I haven't played FFX/X-2 remaster in 6 years.

I feel totally lost about what I was doing in X. I think I was farming AP so I can get the Triple AP weapons. I'm only missing one from Auron. I need to unlock Don Tonberry for the Monster Arena but I need to capture species from The Cavern of the Stolen Fayth. But I can't do that because I gotta fight Dark Yojimbo. :dies:

omg I hate it when the Dark Aeons come and just ruin your day like that :skull: They really should have put in an option to skip past them. Like, if you didn't get the Sun Crest for Tidus's celestial weapon the 1st time you go to Zanarkand, you missed it and have to beat Dark Bahamut to get it if you go back :deadbanana2: So dumb

I just finished this run of Lightning Returns and got all the trophies.

I have so many thoughts on the FF13 trilogy with what went right and what went wrong that I could write a thesis on it.

In short, Lightning and the entire cast deserved so much better, from SE and also the fanbase. FF13 really suffered from being the first FF released in a social media age. FF13 as a game has aged extremely well and is unironically ahead of it's time, Lightning Returns not so much. FF13-2 and LR were designed to try to cater to a bunch of FF loud fans (obnoxious FF7 stans if we are being real) that were never going to buy those two games. The first game had so many interesting concepts that were in the datalog that should have been directly shown in game but those sequels could have expanded on that instead of the hodgepodge they threw together to make the sequels "open world" to solve the complaints about the first half of the game being in a "corridor". It all makes sense in the end but you can tell it was written as they went along.

At the end of Lightning Returns when you do the 4 trials to get the Ultima Weapon and you see those small flashbacks to the previous games I legit got emotional thinking about me playing the original 14 years ago

Anyways, it's #JusticeForLightning

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

I just replayed 13 for the first time since release and honestly the game is immaculate and some of final fantasy at its best for me. I plan to replay FF13-2 as well sometime this year :jonny6:

it baffles me just how gorgeous the game is - it looks better than ff16 hihi! My worry about a remaster is that it will look WORSE

It seems that someone's realized that those deals with Sony might not be that beneficial for the series in the long run

Shift to a multiplatform strategy

For HD titles, the Group will aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy that includes Nintendo platforms, PlayStation, Xbox, and PCs. Especially, in regards to major franchises and AAA titles including catalog titles, it will build an environment where more customers can enjoy our titles. In addition, it will also devise a platform strategy for SD titles that includes not only iOS and Android, but also the possibility of PC launches. Furthermore, the Group will strive to maximize the acquisition of new users when launching a title and that of recurring users after starting management of game operation.

Still no update on Rebirth's sales either...

FF7 Rebirth is SOOO CUTE!  Over 80 hours in!  The interactions between the main characters is hilarious.

Queen's Blood is so much FUN.

The Mario Kart mini game is fantastic.

The sit-up mini game was the most frustrating experience.

There is just so much to do in this game.  Will take me awhile longer to finish.  FF7Rebirth > FF16

From what I've read, FF16 met expectations (which is unusual for Square-Enix) but I imagine Rebirth hasn't. I think both are selling fine(16 better than Rebirth), but Square-Enix's M.O has always been to make terrible business decisions, lose a lot of money and hope their AAA titles subsidies their stupidity. It appears this time they weren't able to.

I'm a Sony stan but being 3rd party and making exclusives out of your biggest franchises literally makes NO sense. Rebirth should have been on PC day 1 and they better have switch 2 ports ready to go whenever it comes out

I remember farming Dark Matter from Dark Yojimbo. You basically fight him three times but not completely kill him and just teleport out of the cavern. I figured that out without consulting a guide and thought I was a genius. :alexz2:

It's honestly been a long while since I played FFX. Maybe I'll find time later this year to play it again, but I have yet to finish my Pixel Remaster tour. Let me play FFIV again. I actually love that game.

Idk if I posted about it in this thread but I'm trying to beat at least one final fantasy game every month this year :gaycat4: I've been doing well so far:

Jan -> FF16, Crisis Core Reunion

Feb -> FF7R

March -> Intermission (a bit of a cheat hihi but since I beat two in Jan I'm letting it go)

April might get a little dicey, I'm like 30 hrs into Rebirth so im hoping I'll have it wrapped as my May game and I've also been playing FF4 DS before I go to sleep. I haven't played 4 in probably 15 years, it's so nostalgic :jonny6: it'll be a struggle but I'm gonna try to have it beat as my April game

Well this didn't happen :monkey: I ended up beating 4 DS in May and I haven't touched Rebirth since this last post :rip: it's an amazing game but I've so busy I've barely been able to play on PS5.

anyways, the end of 4 was so annoying. The first time I fought Zeromus he hit me with a typhoon or whatever takes everyone to like 4 hp and then meteor'd me right after like 10 mins into the fight :ahh:

then I decided to grind like 5 levels and was in the last few floors of the last dungeon that you can't teleport out of and got killed by a random encounter and lost prob 2hrs of grinding. Finally beating it was so sweet

now I'm playing FFXII Revenant Wings before bed. I'm only like 2 hours in but it's cute. I'm hoping it's not overly long tho

Started playing FF16 this week since I only watched my bf play it last year. I was thinking the battle system was a lot easier/simpler than FF7R so far, but I just fought Benedikta and died twice :suburban:

Only reason I even beat her just now is because it's the opposite of Dark Souls and they made it easier the more times I had to click Retry ddd. This might be a long game for me if the bosses are all gonna be like her...

I'm pretty close to the end of Rebirth I think and the soundtrack is just immaculate. I'm at Chapter 13 and one song in particular got me crying for five minutes now :monkey:

Spoiler

I mean the song that is playing during Yuffie's trial. This + seeing Sonon's ghost is just destroying me 😭

I hated the last chapter in Rebirth :rip: They just cannot stick the landings in these games for me.

I saved last night just before the Garuda fight, so we'll see if I can handle the eikon battle any better lol. Can't wait for the Titan and Bahamut fights :jonny5: They looked like so much fun.

I remember you said Remake fell apart for you around the Wall Market chapter. How did you feel about Rebirth's chapters/flow overall comparatively?

(I liked Remake better :clown:)

Rebirth was a lot better overall for me, but it just became so formulaic with the "open" world segments. Same tasks, same amount of times, same rewards... I dunno, by the time I got to Gongaga I was so burnt out on doing the intel towers and the lifespring scans. If I were to replay I'd probably do a lot less of the side content :gaycat6: Maybe that would've made it more enjoyable. I know I'm never platinum-ing this damn game :rip:

That said, I enjoyed the combat, the bosses, and the minigames even, so I was willing to suck it up to get to the end and... what a dump. Like, way to spoil an iconic scene with another overwrought final boss rush and a dumb, weird twist. Made me kinna mad tbh!

Can't wait for this trilogy to be over.

EDIT: This post makes it look like I hated the game :rip: I actually was loving it a fuckton through to the end of the Corel part. I still liked it afterwards, just found it getting a tad formulaic. The ending was the only thing I strongly disliked.

And the way they added another horrible Hojo dungeon after fans hated the one in Remake so bad :rip: What the hell.

This one was slightly better, if only because it wasn't as much a pace breaker as the one in Remake was.

Seriously. On paper, it seems like a perfect solution to open world vs. linear approaches, where they basically made separate optional open world regions to play in between story parts, but it's just soooo much :gaycat6: I only did side quests in the Grasslands and Cosmo Canyon regions because I mostly wanted to focus on the story, but when I go back to do side quests in the regions I skipped, I end up turning it off in less than 10 min out of boredom nnnn

I totally agree about the ending. The way they "reimagined" this story just to make it fit today's trends... kinda unholy :thing:

Haha, it felt kinda like the developers got bored of making them too. Like, early on the fiend intel battles would have a lot of potential clauses for the fight - beat it within the time limit, stagger the enemies, don't let it use X technique, don't get poisoned, don't get hit - but by the time you get to the last two(ish) areas it was always the same three: time limit, pressure enemies, stagger enemies. Like, made an already tedious part of the experience have even less variety, idk.

I also wanted the open world to challenge my brain more. I wanted to have a Xenoblade-style moment where I see a cool place and think "oh man, how do I get to there!?". But not really. Everything is pretty easy to reach between walking or Chocobo abilities. :'( Or just invisible wall it and keep it inaccessible.
