There is no Hollywood accounting in this case. Kreayshawn was given 1 million dollars to spend how she pleased and she admitted that she spent it on drugs. She talked about renting out a studio for 50K a week but no songs would be produced since she was high.

 

The way advances work is that label gives the artist that money and they are free to spend it however they want. They are just supposed to eventually give the label an album to release. The advance goes to paying for her lifestyle and team and not just the album production proper.

 

For most artists, the advances is what they live off since they never make enough money for the label to start actually receiving royalties.  If they don't pay off the advance, they don't owe any money outside their foregone royalties from their music paid for by the advance.

 

A $1 million is a relatively high advance for a new artist but it was likely was because there was a bit of a bidding war since her song was viral.

What kinda contract requires her to make payments to the label? Money should flow the other way around. The label makes their money from the artist’s releases, not their pockets.

But the only money going to Sony is the money being currently generated from Gucci Gucci and other songs on her 2012 album on streaming. Gucci Gucci only has 36 million streams on Spotify so likely isn't generating much money at all. She doesn't need to pay Sony any money outside that. She doesn't have to pay them anything when she tours or releases new music.

 

Sony gave her an 1 million dollar advance for her 2012 album and she admitted that instead of recording music  "So I’d be sitting in the studio, drinking lean, smoking weed, getting drunk, not recording anything for a week, not knowing that all that was $25,000[for the studio time]."

OMG, this was very hard to read. I read the whole thing and she comes off as a very troubled, bratty and irresponsible girl who was given an amazing chance and just blew it. She should've actually read her contract and maybe she'd be an actual musician by now. The end of the inteview was the most annoying with her being like "yeah, I get around doing OnlyFans and I play a lot of video games" Like seriously? She sounds really lazy hahaha I really disliked her. I thought it was going to be a really sad story that would out the label as evil and it was actually the other way around. 

 

She was just an irresponsible girl who thought it was just like "now I'm rich, lemme spend it all on drugs and a party lifestyle, I'm done". For her to actually say: "It's an actual job", like she was shocked about that aspect: OF COURSE IT'S A JOB! you think that all the famous people just became well known and lived happilly ever after? 

 

Get a grip, and let that bill remain a huge loss for the label while you play video games and "create content"

This is typically how recording contracts work tbh, the label will pay you x amount of money to make the record and then you need to pay it back. The figure can be as low as 5-6 figures for smaller artists, or sky high in the 8 figures for the largest artists. I think Gaga got like $25M for artpop.

That has never been confirmed by any reliable sources, it has always been just a rumor during the tones of fake articles wrote by the not existent Angela Cheng.

It was confirmed when Gaga's contracts leaked a few years ago, the falsehood spread by tabloids was that Interscope made a $25M loss on the ARTPOP project, which isn't the case, that figure is the total budget.
