Chicago is one of those cities where the crime rate is so high that lots of businesses would not operate in large parts of the city. It would be interesting to see how city-owned grocery stores fare. This + Maine’s proposed nationalizing of their electric grid are very encouraging and hopefully they trigger a precedent. This just highlights how scarcity of food due to big box stores closing should give hint how much control these companies have in our lives. Walmart for example manufacturing food items like those cheap Good Value brands that kills competition, and then selling in their superstores is straight up monopolistic.
