Katy doesn't. So basically Katy is earning like $2-3m in streaming royalty

If 9B -> 30M; 28B -> 93M So, where do we go from here? The revenue numbers from Billboard are for her global streams tho, so even if she makes $90M from streaming this year, it'll be for all her streams and not just from Spotify like the other user claimed. 1

Essentially this probably just means her music will be popping up more casually in commercial usage and be more frequently repackaged, covered etc... As a listener/fan it shouldn't have any impact on you. How do you know that? Capitol still owns her masters. She only sold her publishing rights and royalties.
DougAF Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 How do we contact the new owner and request he remove witness from all streaming platforms immediately 1 1 2

unino Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 this is actually a good deal for katy, they only bought her stake of her master but with 225m. imagine if she actually owns her master and selling them

Yeah no, I just estimated what the global revenue numbers for 2023 will look like using spotify as a estimation tool since it is the only streaming service that is widely used AND gives us transparent numbers every single day.

Vespertine Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 Whether or not this is a smart financial decision for Katy is a moot point. Obviously her music is making a lot of money in recurrent streams and licensing -- otherwise it wouldn't be worth buying for $225m. It's just a matter of a bigger payout now vs. receiving it over time. I imagine for Katy and anyone else who has sold their catalogues, it's about getting a lump sum now and then re-investing the money. HOWEVER... none of these deals are to be celebrated. Private equity is quite literally ruining society (at least in the US). Even if you don't care about housing, medicine, food, retail... literally everything... you should at least care about how it's ruining the entertainment industry. There is no reason to invest in new, original content anymore when you can just re-package old hits and force them onto TTH. 1 3
postergirl Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 How do these deals even work? Does Katy bank all of that money or is it split between writers and producers etc? Because I want Bonnie McKee to make fat stacks from this so she can keep giving us MPG-level music videos for her upcoming album.

Darkgalord Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 Does she get all of the $225M or Capitol gets a piece of the cake as well?

From what I understand, it all goes to her, since she's selling just the royalties/masters that belong to her. It doesn't affect the co-writers, producers, etc

barbiegrande Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 It’s always funny when broke ATRLers say artists are underselling themselves for selling their masters. Taylor brainwashed y’all into thinking rights to masters are everything, when it’s really not. 225 is amazing for Katy Perry, an artist who peaked 10 years ago no shade. 3 1
blackoutbaby Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 Well, get that bag I guess. Maybe she’ll make more shoes with the money 1
