She already made a bank in recent years with idol + her business endeavors, plus its her intelectual propriety and she would continue to profit from recurrents for years to come. I think Orlando needs money now cause his career is fading

I don't have the stats to support my argument either, but if we're guessing, as everyone is here apparently, my bets on the cash-out. And it's not even close. The stats being thrown around here are from her peak and aren't factoring in depreciation since then, regardless of new licensing deals.

All Katy loses is the right to choose where her music gets licensed but she'll easily make more from this deal than she would ever make from her catalogue in the next 50+ years. Especially considering her music is not exactly gaining popularity with time like say Lana Honestly yeah I agree with this. This seems like the best decision for artist like Katy but not artist like Taylor where her catalog gets way more stronger with time. Shes making $80M+ a year from Spotify alone currently.

This is about Katy's publishing rights and royalties from her masters.

mypaintoyou Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 Idk why they didn’t Jsut buy debut to prism like why buy those two other albums that don’t bring any money, I just feel like it’s a waste of money.
perfect blue Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 These companies are privy to all the financial details and have teams of professionals performing deal valuation analysis. I’d trust their valuation over an expired twink’s hunch on ATRL.net. 1 10

Thats crazy I think she also sold her publishing rights, so now she does not have control on any aspect of her past music which really makes me sad.

If you are gonna drag her making that much money, at least make some sense. These kinds of drags are sooo pointless then what’s the point of dragging Xtina she’s still successful and rich than 99.9% of Atrlers 3

What kind of control over your past music do you need? Essentially this probably just means her music will be popping up more casually in commercial usage and be more frequently repackaged, covered etc... As a listener/fan it shouldn't have any impact on you.
Breathe On Moi Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 I know people just like to beat up on Katy here (look at this thread) but this is very impressive and amazing for her, unexpected.

She went from 15.6B estimated global streams in 2021, to 36.6B in 2022 according to UMG, so based on this increase alone, her global revenue from streaming would've been ~$68M last year. In 2023 her streaming stats have exploded even further, so she'll exceed that number once again this year, at least as a far as we can tell from publicly available numbers. The true revenue numbers are unknown to everyone except to Taylor and her label, so it's just speculation at the end of the day. Edited September 18, 2023 by Feanor 1
