I wouldn’t applaud ratings like this, 3 year “high” or not. Year old re-runs of NCIS get more views than this. 
 

Should be happy they even exist to an extent, cause it’s pretty abysmal. Also didn’t help that they were near 4 hours long.

Updated TV ratings have now been released. While 865,000 viewers tuned in to watch the VMAs directly on MTV, the show was watched by a total of 3.9 million viewers across all networks, including Univision, which was newly added because of Shakira.  

 

Total minutes consumed were up 14.5% with 1.8 billion compared to last year’s 1.6 billion, indicating that viewers tuned in for a longer amount of time.

 

Paramount Global says this was also the “most social” VMAs of all time, citing 46 million interactions online measured by Social Content Ratings. Paramount+ views still have not been added.
