Hannah Diamond effortlessly pulls Uno reverse - Zara Larson apologizes

Hannah took to Instagram and effortlessly explained herself and actually flipped the script, rightfully claiming she actually influenced Zara’s creative direction… to which Zara actually admitted was likely the case. Talent always wins :giraffe: One of, if not, the first time a PC Music artist has up front acknowledged their impact on mainstream music.

Hannah’s statement

@zaralarsson is an incredible popstar and I totally acknowledge the overlaps between our work so I'd like to take a minute to give some background to my choices for making and putting this image out in the world. For me, there is no joy to be found in using someone else's experience to create art and the last thing I'd ever want is to make Zara or any other artist feel like something had been taken from them.

My new album is about exploring girlhood and its varying expressions in pop culture. It has resulted in me expressing and unearthing new parts of my personality for the first time to my audience but mostly, it's been about unpacking all the elements of my music and photography career since 2013 that have led me to where I am now. It is a celebration of the work I have made that has influenced so much of the visual aesthetics of the world of underground and mainstream pop today.

The images that myself and my peers at PC Music made were pioneering (thank you dazed & its nice that!) and have since been disseminated through popular culture and influenced an entirely new era of pop music and trends in visual aesthetics. Those things that embrace what used to be seen as plastic, inauthentic, too commercial, too camp or kitsch, shiny retouched perfect pictures. The visuals for my new album are a call back to the visuals I made at the very start of my career because I wanted this album to feel like a 360 moment. I'm the same girl in the same bedroom but l've grown up.

But, back to the image. My bedroom is central to my practice as an artist. Just like the music and images I make, it's an intimate self portrait. It's a place of creation and inspiration and a classic popstar trope.

The bedroom in my image was created with my actual bedroom as the reference, the same way that the concept of my video Hi was to explore the trajectory of bedroom to popstar.

My Poster Girl its out tomorrow & hope you like it as much as I do.

Love,

HD X

Zara's response

I have to be honest and say that I wasn't invested in

your artistry and creative work so when I first saw it felt really really sad, because this was one of the first shoots that I planned out myself in my friends bedroom so I felt extremely proud and excited about it. I wanted to capture what it felt like for me growing up while looking at all the pictures on my wall hoping I'd one day be on someone else's wall as a singer. Or the duality of being just a girl while also trying to be being a perfect performer. I think the girlhood bedroom experience is a beautiful and universal thing. Like, didn't we all just dream about being pop stars in our bedrooms as kids? Anyways, now when I've done my research I can see that even though I didn't have you on my mood board, the photographers that l've looked up to and had on it most likely, surly definitely, did! And that's what art is about at the end of the day. I wish you the best with your album!!

This is such a stupid response :rip:

Hannah blatantly copied Zara's album cover and title. Just because you supposedly "influenced" someone doesn't mean you can steal their work

the Swedish Beyoncé handled this gracefully and actually has hits and listenable music so who really won in the end

If you’re tasteless and can’t enjoy colorful music just admit it. You’re boring. Zara doesn’t have a creative bone in her body and simply puts out whatever’s trendy for soccer moms and H&M dressing rooms :chick3:

Hannah is an ARTIST, not just a singer like miss H&M

She should learn not to speak on Hannah's name

I don’t think you understand. Hannah has essentially been doing this exact photo shoot for a decade. Hannah even admitted that her creative team was “definitely” influenced by Hannah

Hannah is a very well known (in the left field pop wolrd) creative director and photographer who basically popularized this aesthetic c.2013 when PC Music came to be. I know it sounds ridiculous but it is genuinely a coincidence the songs have the same title. I think we both know somebody wouldn’t be stupid enough to “steal” both creative direction AND a title

Zara called Hannah out for obviously copying her, Hannah responds by saying "well you're influenced by me" as if that makes it any better? :deadbanana2:

Imagine if Madonna did this with Lady Gaga

That’s not what happened. Clearly you didn’t read the full statement.

Everyone wants a familiar fruit moment or whatever.

Even if Hannah did copy Zara, who cares? She’s a completely unknown artist. The Lush Life singer is constantly embarrassing herself online :rip:

Please. It’s essentially like if one of the girls wore her hair in a ponytail on her album cover then later accused Ariana Grande of copying her for also having her hair in a ponytail on her new cover. Be serious. :toofunny2:

Zara was well within her rights to make a few snarky comments, and Hannah Diamond should be grateful it wasn't taken further.

Also calling Hannah the talented one is...certainly a choice, since she's still trying to pass off that screeching she does as singing.

Girl… please critically think  :rip: I don’t understand, why do you think someone would intentionally want to make it known they ripped something off?

Like 90% of her music is written from the POV of a teenage girl in her bedroom in the 90s/early 00dreaming of being a pop star, so yeah, it’s not far-fetched to think think she’d write a song about the girls on the posters. :doc:
