That doesn't mean that another artist isn't eligible for that title - depending on if they have been more popular on the show (and lots of people do see it for the former, which tells u something since u do know this site hates on her every chance they get).

She definitely is smaller than Madge as a whole, but in VMAs terms - she isn't just "the princess of the show". Even if you don't see it for her, her moments still at least put her next to Ciccone.

Also, you don't know how they are with other artists. Madonna is obviously the Queen, so ofc they would give her all she wants. That doesn't mean that some other artist don't get the same special privileges.

It's not that I don't see it for Britney, it's just that I see it more for Madonna.

In ascertaining who is the "Queen of the VMAs", I favour the person who basically innovated the format we associate with the VMAs, who made it what it was for subsequent acts to even enter the conversation.

This was the FIRST performance EVER on the VMAs stage. It wasn't even like she was keeping up with others and just did it better. SHE brought this energy to the awards, and to this day...through her own participation and through others', the VMAs is considered to be a rather youthful show that is sure to surprise and shock you and create "water cooler" moments.

The fact that 19 years later MTV asked her to basically come up with their opening act herself, and through that created perhaps the most scandalous, talked about, iconic moment (with Britney) in VMAs history shows that she is the true Queen.

(And this is without mentioning the other iconic moments she's had on stage)

But time and time again, Britney has been the one to be used in their promos still to this day

She's the one using them to promote her book right now :rip:

I change my vote from Madonna to Taylor. :nicole:

This pushes her more to a title of Mother of the VMAs

since there is someone who arguably matches her impact on that stage

True, the Kiss performance was nicely done (even tho it would've been strange if it was with JLo instead of Xtina)

but the main part that was remembered, was the kiss. Which wouldn't be the same if it wasn't with Britney - the title, time and place, drama, etc.

And the idea started as a tribute to her first performance anyways (but not many people realize that)

Ofc, one title isn't above the other (continuing from the first paragraph). It's more about which matches it to who better.

I guess u could say it may be more about taking it away from Britney, instead of just giving it to Madonna.

It speaks volumes that the last moment Britney truly gave a sh.t on that stage was for a Madonna tribute

If the VMAs can't have two queens, Madonna is undisputedly the queen and Britney can be the undisputed princess

The 2003 VMA, I don't count the last one because it was during the conservatorship. She clearly wanted to sing live and they didn't let her.

Well, Queen Mother of the VMAs, maybe. She might have given the baton to others, but her impact and her queenship is not at all taken away because another era had their own Queen. Overall, Madonna's contributions, impact and iconic performances seem to hold more claim to the title than anyone else.

We can fairly say that the kiss would not have been the same without Britney, but it literally would have been nothing without Madonna. She created it.

Madonna's impact is just too large to say that any of her successors are the true queen of the VMAs.

Madonna... queerbaiting?... girl

Britney was just happy to kiss her idol. If Madonna tells you she wants to kiss you on stage you say yes. If anything, it shows how pure Britney's mind is that she didn't do it for any particular reason. In her mind, there's nothing wrong with two women kissing, so she did it.

I'm not even gonna talk about Madonna's thought process lol
