as someone who has loved every project from them, with love from was disappointing and the tour was even worse. they say they're gonna keep playing the old hits but no one wants to hear those boring acoustic mixes of them

Yeab it's getting frustrating. They seem to be the type to think pop music is low brow which is a little insulting. Like no reason why they can't give us an album full of Stomach, Listen, Symptom Of Your Touch and Pretty Places like we're not asking for much... and wait what about the tour being worse ???

Which is why they're probably rushing to release new material. I don't think their dumb. This is their livelihood since they're independent so I think that they're aware of the lukewarm response of the last record which honestly just came across as more of a b sides to ATOTB like it wasn't bad it was just a mid follow up to such a great record

Idk what they have against synthpop when they tried it, were great at it and it's technically what put them back on the map too. Idk why they've become so anti pop over the years.

HOWEVER, I enjoy when artists experiment & try new things. I enjoy their folkie-pop sound. 

Their sanctuary compilation WE DONT STOP is a masterpiece. I don't mind them doing folk pop but it's been two records of the same sound and I don't want any extension of that anymore especially since their last album with that same sound dragged and killed their momentum for many of us.

Also, and I know I’m in the minority with this, but I don’t consider their pop efforts all of the same caliber. For me, Sanctuary remains their weakest effort to date, an EP of faceless mainstream fodder without any identity. It’s cute, they sound great, and I love it for what it is but it’s not in the same league as ATOTB, WLF, Ten Years or even HH and Insomniatic. 

Sanctuary is probably their most dynamic work to date tbh. It was basically a modern rebirth of their yester pop sound. Very genius and timeless and spacey. It made being a fan of them cool. Since they love this ******* Americana sound so much they need to get their **** together and release HH officially. If they can sell vinyls of it they can release it to streaming. I consider TEN YEARS/SANCTUARY as WE DONT STOP which compiles that whole sonic journey into one album and era as their best work to date.

and yes Sunchoke is an excellent song so we know they still got it!

Thank you for speaking for all of us because this is truly how we all feel. And again they're independent so they literally can't afford to give us what we want or else we will turn on them no offense lol we're investing our time effort money and energy into supporting them the least that can do is give us what we want or find a happy medium which they have done before instead of continuing to go left. Hothouse was only polarizing due to the name change and sound change being so abrupt after a musical hiatus. But them dropping that record now wouldn't be so out of place. Yeah they really need to stop being so entitled and stubborn and realize pop can be many things and it doesn't automatically make them commercial, sellouts etc and doesn't take away any artistic integrity

TBF I don't mind the idea of an indie rock sound, as long as they stop with the overt Americana of WLF. It had some highlights but I wish more of the sound of the title track had permeated the album instead of most of what we got.
