Some of you guys are so dramatic. Did The Fame Monster outsell The Fame? True Blue outsell Like a Virgin? Oops with Baby One More Time? Emotions with Mariah’s Debut. Whitney (1987) with Whitney Houston (1985)? Still Over It and Over It? The answer is no, but these are all examples of follow ups to massive break through albums not selling as much, but still being big smashes on their own.

Or an even closer analogue, Speak Now after Fearless

That’s a bad comparison. Speak Now debuted with a million units while Fearless only debuted with 500k.

Fearless had greater longevity. But Speak  Now’s higher debut without a big smash was a clear sign that Taylor had already created a big passionate fanbase that would support her regardless.

Olivia’s numbers are good . But her similar numbers to Sour shows that her die hard fanbase is solid but quite smaller than Taylor’s after Fearless.

Tfm did outsell the fame’s first week lol and it was an EP so even worse… not a 12 different versions of an album.

Not sure about the others but at least do your homework. Guts will never be near tfm or baby one more time.. like ever

Lol first improve your grammar. I have no clue what you're trying to say in the first sentence. Obviously TFM outsold TF's first week because it took a few months for The Fame to kick off. But still, TF is 6x Platinum while TFM is 5x Platinum. Both smash albums, but TFM still didn't outsell The Fame. That was the whole point. Most follow-ups don't outsell their breakthroughs. Just because Guts won't outsell Sour doesn't make Guts a flop album.

And I have no clue why you're comparing Guts to BOMT, when we're comparing sophomore releases. Nobody said Guts will be as big as TFM or BOMT. Did I say that in my post?

Yeah that's true, and we all know Speak Now is a massive album.

But how could you even compare when Guts has only been out for a week lol. Also don’t compare olivia’s 2nd album to tfm or bomt if you don’t want the backlash. Your point just did not come across well and it doesn’t even make sense lol. Tfm especially was an ep and an extension to TF, OBVIOUSLY no one expected it to outsell the fame, if anything it pushed tf to rise in sales and charts. DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

and not you complaining about my grammar and not understanding the first sentence, but then you reply with an essay to that sentence. Grammatically there was nothing wrong with what I wrote, but go ahead and feel a bit more interesting.

Oh right because the first album was the one with the giant hit Tim McGraw

That def did not ride on anyone's coattails right

Also I was referring to this. If it's accurate.

point taken with Fearless not being the debut. Though it says there's a drop between Fearless and Speak Now

She has, but she does not have different bonus tracks in her variants.

What i mean, 1 different bonus track per variant. She never done that

Oh ya you’re right. Sorry, I was just confused cause I thought you were implying Olivia’s strategy should result in more sales than Taylor’s

The confusion  is that we should only be comparing debut weeks since we don’t have enough info to project lifetime units .

There was a drop because Speak Now didn’t have any big hits unlike Fearless. However, Speak Now almost doubled Fearless debut units. That showed that Fearless had created a large loyal fanbase that would continue to support her without major hits.

After Sour, Olivia should have created a big enough fanbase to surpass Sour’s debut even without a big hit. That’s the common pattern with artists that had a widely successful breakout album like Sour.

Guts opening similar to Sour even with a #1 suggests that her loyal fanbase hasn’t grown that much in size compared to Sours debut. It grew enough to make up for the lower steams but not significantly more.

Her numbers are still great but they likely below her label’s expectations. Both Olivia and her label clearly cared a ton about sales considering the high amount of interviews, vinyl variants and physical exclusive songs.

However, Guts like Sour could still have great streaming longevity. We just need to wait and see.

Should be keeping a closer eye on comparisons to Billie's trajectory than Taylor's. Billie comes from the same generation and also has a devoted following. Even now, I don't quite understand how HTE was a major decline for her; it was a stronger album than her EP and debut, and somehow still marked a regression with her fans.

This is great, and I definitely think it’ll rise. :clap3:

It's way bigger than Happier than ever though so it's not? Olivia has basically made herself into a MPG while Billie?

Weird thing to say because Billie has bigger career and more acclaimed than Olivia yet she's not an MPG? Both of them are MPG. :-*

Let me just say someone knows they lost an argument when they try to critique someone’s grammar instead of their points.

Go off, queen. Your grammar is absolutely fine.

How is that closer? Those two albums were released in the digital era. Both of Olivia’s albums have been released in the streaming era. They cannot be compared. Also, you can just use the word “comparison”. We know what you mean.

I completely agree. Grammar correction is just disguised classism. If the message is understood, the ONLY reason to comment on somebody’s “grammar” is to feel superior over another human being. It’s disgusting. I almost feel like reporting my 8th grade English, self described “grammar nazi”, teacher to the police. I really hope Olivia can exceed these expectations and refute these losers. I have a feeling she will exceed 300k.

Billie should have led with HTE!!!! Instead of Lost Cause. Even NDA would've been great. LC was just...not it...sound or image wise.

A GUTS-Y SHOWING AT DSPs

Olivia Rodrigo is spilling her GUTS across the streaming charts, dominating the DSPs with her new 12-cut Geffen set (which is due for a #1 chart bow in the 275k+ range, according to our abacus).

How big is O-Rod at the streameries? On Spotify's USA chart, she currently holds eight of the Top 10 positions, including #1 ("bad idea right?"), #3, #4 and #5. Only Doja Cat and Zach Bryan are preventing her from running the table.

On the global Top 50, meanwhile, she commands nine spots in the Top 25, including four in the Top 10 (with initial salvo "vampire" leading).

And then there's Apple Music, traditionally a somewhat harder nut to crack for pop artists. But Olivia is teaching us to think different (or, for those of you who enjoy grammar, differently) with seven of the Top 10 and 12 of the Top 25 tracks.

You may draw your own conclusions, but it sure seems as if a lot of folks are consuming GUTS as an album (and judging by the reviews, most critics deem this a rewarding pursuit).

How big will this one get? How long will O-Rod occupy the upper reaches of the DSP charts? Will she see billion-plus stream counts on her latest singles, as she has with breakout cuts "drivers license" and "good 4 u?" We shall see. For now, suffice to say this: She's back and she's big, baby.
