PieceByPiece_KC Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 (edited) When I first heard chemistry, it wasn't love at first listen, but through countless spins, it has become one of my favorite Kelly Clarkson albums. Now that we've had the album for a few months, I'm curious to see your thoughts. Here are some of mine: Vocally, Kelly is unmatched on this album. She has only continued to sound better and better over the years. The vocal production has never sounded better or more authentic to how she sounds live. A big thank you to Jason Halbert! Kelly's songwriting stands out. For many years, fans have been yearning for an album with more content written by Kelly herself, and it really works on the album. She's is just telling us how she feels. Many of the lyrics (lighthouse) feel like lines taken out of a diary. Her songwriting has really grown over the years, and it shows on chemistry. Amid the sadness, bitterness, and anger a lot of this album carries, Kelly isn't afraid to have some fun. At first, the the ending of the album seems a bit odd - i hate love, red flag collector, and that's right. These songs are almost jarring upon the first few listens because they are so left of center compared to the rest of the album, but in the end, it's what helps bring the album together. In these songs, she is almost joking about what a dumpster fire her life has been. The lyric You can keep Gosling. i'll Keep Steve Martin" comes to mind. These closing songs give a nice, new perspective to the central theme of the album. Our discussion comes just in time for the release of chemistry deluxe on September 22nd and roses (first single from the deluxe album) this Friday! Edited September 6, 2023 by PieceByPiece_KC

ATRL Moderator Ampersand13 Posted September 6, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted September 6, 2023 I was just thinking about this and my honest answer is yes! I’m regularly spinning Mine, Favorite Kind of High, Magic, Chemistry, Down to You, Red Flag Collector, Lighthouse etc. Is it the most inventive pop record? No. Do I wish Kelly exercised a little more specificity and vulnerability lyrically throughout the album? Yes. But regardless, it’s a beautifully produced and sung effort and Kelly remains one of the best vocalists of her generation. 1
Tylerbv Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 Still goes off rock hudson, lighthouse, that’s right, and magic are still in my regular rotation currently 1
ATRL Moderator feelslikeadream Posted September 6, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted September 6, 2023 Of course. It's a classic Kelly album 1
Roberto Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 (edited) Yes! Down To You is easily one of the best pop song of the year. Me, Skip This Part, FKOH (Guetta) and Rock Hudson, I still listen to them a lot too. Edited September 6, 2023 by Roberto 1
ScubaDive Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 Is she going to perform this anywhere? She needs a hit..
AvadaKedavra Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 Havent listened yet but is at the top of my list to listen once im free
Matthew Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 Mine and Lighthouse continue to be the best songs. Glad the deluxe album cover is better. 1
Power love Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 Honesty, this is the most boring Kelly C album & era. Just the way she did the bare minimum for this era just turn me off. I thought she was really going to give us a dark divorce album but it’s so generic. It’s just a weak album.
JoeAg Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 yes! absolutely can't wait for the deluxe! personal favs: Mine, Down to You, Favorite Kind of High, Lighthouse, My Mistake, I Hate Love it's honestly so great, and it's a grower for sure so if you put in the listening hours, it reveals itself as an excellent breakup album
OhMyAlf Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 Still regularly play this in full, it's currently my most played record this year 1
KatyPrismSpirit Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 Hell no. It’s so bland and boring after one listen. I dont see how anyone could still use this album after a few listens.
BreakawayDeluxe Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 Yes, Lighthouse still breaks my heart everytime I listen
I54X Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 I don't really follow her releases but I will eventually stream the entire album. I love Kelly, she is a rarity in this industry.
Alldeezy Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 There was 2 tracks I liked on first listen but haven't listen to those since it got released. Guess this album didn't grab me the same as her older ones.
