If you are broke, a loser, ugly, have no friends, poor family life, rotten relationships - all of those things remain true, perhaps even MORE true, by some of y'all latching onto Taylor's success as if it means anything to you. Stanning someone for their artistry, their expressions, what they have to say, sure. But this constant Swiftie droning about numbers and sales and success... Yes, and has no bearing on you ever. Just says she, like some other wicked cretin like Elon or Bezos, is good at hoarding hundreds of millions of dollars that could otherwise be used to vastly improve our planet. 4

Villas Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 (edited) She’s losing money to put her release date early as way to lost her share in its film merch. Studios also wanted it to be moved to 2024, but I think it’s a win for theaters since the sag strike has been a halt for box office numbers Edited September 1, 2023 by Villas
BODERLINE Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 People in here seriously thinking TAYLOR SWIFT of all people and her team would ever allow something to go through that blatantly broke laws. Also, as if major studios don't skirt laws all the time and no one bats an eye. Think what you want about the pricing itself, but it never would have been approved if it wasn't legal. That's not how Taylor operates. I am thoroughly enjoying watching Hollywood FUME at this announcement though 2

Feetree Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 Can someone smarter than me explain what this all means or maybe a YouTube video that explains it? I understand the studios are mad that they are being cut out and not getting a piece of the pie but I would like to understand the why and context behind how the industry works

I understand the studios are mad that they are being cut out and not getting a piece of the pie but I would like to understand the why and context behind how the industry works There are two main reasons the studio is bad. Traditionally, theaters have left distribution to the studios. AMCs being a distributor is very much unprecedented. In their eyes, it upsets the power balance between studios and theaters. AMCs is showing their independence. Keep in mind, the CEO of AMC is a crypto currency meme lord who hates the studios for destroying the traditional 90 theater exclusive window during covid. He's trying to create a new business model for AMC that is less dependent on the whims of the studios. Another big reason is that studios traditionally coordinate with each other to ensure that their releases don't undermine each other. AMC only notified 4 other movie chains about the release a few days ago and kept the studios completely in the dark . As a result, the studios were surprised along with everyone else by a film that's clearly going to takeaway a ton of screens from their movies. As a result, at least two movies have changed their release dates to get away from Taylor. One of these movies is the Excorist:Believer which was projected to open at #1 that weekend. The studio had already spent millions advertising the release date of October 13, the perfect horror movie release date. (Also the movie is rumored to suck so they want to make as much money opening weekend since the legs will be terrible. The studio spent 400 million on the rights to make 3 exorcist sequels so they really want the movie to succeed). Killers of the Flower Moon might lose some showings on their opening weekend if Taylor's demand is still crazy on the second weekend. In addition, other movies are the third or later weekends will likely now get dropped from the movie theaters to make room for Taylor. However, I think the articles are playing up how mad the studios are. The likely (98% certainty) source is AMC meme lord CEO who got other memers to buy AMC stock by positioning AMC has a company that was being sabotaged by studios, short sellers , and other nefarious parties. 1

It's essentially a major power move by Taylor on the film industry. The studios are having a strike and refusing to negotiate with their workers (writers and actors), so their strategy so far is making it last as long as possible so workers in the industry would start losing their mortgages, etc. This hurts the movie theaters as well since a lot of movies have been delayed indefinitely. Which would have happened to Taylor's concert movie, since the studios wanted to release this movie in like 2024/2025. She said **** that and decided to fund her own concert movie and use AMC to distribute her movie instead, bypassing all the studio middlemen. Which obviously piss the studios off since this move gives the writers and actors guild more power on the negotiation table and keep the theaters afloat this fall. 4
