I'm not pitying her, moreso questioning ATRL's general narrative that Miley is some lazy nepo baby who didn't work for her success.

Honestly I’m coming off as a hater, which I’m not. You’re right. I do have a problem with millionaires complaining their things and expecting something off of us, because these things don’t become press material for no reason or incidentally. Maybe the hardcore fans care about these first world problems, but I’d rather she would take the “just dont do it” and didnt create a whole discourse about it.

Is her intent to create discourse, though? The video makes it seem like she’s just reflecting on her life at that age and then cracking a little joke about it. I don’t think there’s more to it beyond that.

people always take interview quotes out of context and thinking it's directed directly at them, weird narcissistic / unaware parasocial behavior

Maybe it’s a bias from following the whole era, how the tour comments crept up, and the usual way Miley words things. I lacked some nuance in my comments. The abuse and the financial safety can and probably coexisted. I deserve the draggings

Yeah lets erase 15 years of Miley Cyrus talking things so sure of herself as the ultimate version of herself and then backtracking or seeing things differently  because that’s just how life is. Her sole characteristic that hasn’t changed since the Hannah days.

It’s mostly interviews and a photoshoot according to the video. Have you ever tried school? We were up at 5 AM too :rip: She’s 100% right in coasting on her privilege and she was overworked (for millions). We just don’t feel sorry about it or think its the hardest thing ever lol

Girl please. I certainly didn’t have a full time job where I worked 5:30am to 10pm every day of the week when I was 13. And what Miley was doing was exhausting on all levels, having to perform for others and be exploited during the adolescent phase of her life. It’s not developmentally appropriate at all. I totally get why Miley’s at a point now where she doesn’t wanna grind that hard anymore. I’d hate that lifestyle at any stage of my life.

what does that have to do with anything this thread is talking about ??

her inconsistencies as a young adult finding herself in this world after an incomparably unique experience as a child do not discredit the realities of her working conditions under Disney nor her voice, feelings or options of such.

I don't think people should minimize this... she was a kid working 12-15 hour days. That's unfathomable for most kids. She's earned the right to take a break for however long she wants, people forget how tough this business is especially on women and children. She doesn't owe anyone anything tb and I say this as someone who loves the album and would've liked to see more promo for it but people need to relax.

What she was doing at 13 was much harder than a 9 to 5. There. Said it again. Fight me about it

I don’t get why that touring comment caused so much backlash here. Celebs are people… if she hates touring then she hates touring it’s literally as simple as that.

This. I wouldn’t blame her if she just wanted to retire altogether. She could afford not to work. I don’t understand why some feel entitled to her labor.

:coffee2: Just promote your new song with live performances , don’t let the singles die , it is not our responsibility to make it successful

Not yall calling her lazy when yall want a less than 40 hour work week.

I get you point but girl? We don't earn millions for this, like Miley. I am sure she wouldn't resist a 40h week job to gain like 1k dolars per month

All singers were really overworked at the beginning of their career while they were still teens. Britney and Christina had INSANE schedules. They had to tour while recording their second albums, TV performances all over the world, award shows, interviews, photoshoots, magazines, music videos, etc. So it's not surprising that as they age they grow tired of that kind of grinding.

Honestly I understand her. So many of my faves were destroyed physically and emotionally by this industry.

Sometimes I think if she could go back in time, she would tell her old self not to go on Hannah Montana, instead wait until she's late 20s and stick to Dolly 24/7.

Not worse than how Amazon.com treated their employees.

...and there are hundreds of millions of people in poverty worldwide that make whatever you're thinking of look preferable

comparisons like this are pointless and inequivalent
