AvadaKedavra Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 (edited) Back in the early 2000s Britney-Xtina had some peers very similar to them. Some people used to call them "The Copycats-Clones-Robots" of Britney,Xtina but they had their own twists and vibes too Jessica Simpson-Mandy Moore-Hoku-Willa Ford. We always talk about Jessica Simpson-Mandy Moore...... so Today we are talking about HOKU and in my next thread i will talk about Willa Ford Hoku is from Hawaii and was a good performer for the 2000s (live singin) and a guitar player Hoku is the daughter of the iconic. Don-Ho a very important singer from Hawaii The singles of her first record were doin ok and she had a good future ahead of her.....Then the label executives told her how she needed to play the game with the people from the industry to rise "Suck some D's for plays" "**** Her Way to the top"...Hoku had a christian background, so she clashed with her label and they stopped all the promo and she just jumped ship from the music world forever. Opposite to the other girls of the time HOKU was not serving Sexy bops like I Wanna Be Bad By Willa/Irresistible By Jessica/Candy By Mandy Hoku was more a Disney kind of performer. She was Hilary Duff Before Hilary Duff. Serving cutesy and Happy bops. She also worked with Antonina Armato and Tim James (Demi-Miley-Selena-Aly Aj....) Some of her songs Another Dumb Blonde. Fourteenth Best Selling Single From The Year 2000. Had big rotation on MTV Part of the soundtrack of the successful teen movie. Snow days. Pure early 2000s bliss. How Do i Feel. Summer bop. The Burrito song Perfect Day. Part of the soundtrack of the iconic movie LEGALLY Blonde Is Hoku cute and deserved more ? What are your thoughts about all these Britney-Xtina peers? Have u listened any of them? Edited August 29, 2023 by AvadaKedavra
better than revenge Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 At this point all new pop girls were based on Britney, not a surprise after BOMT's huge success but it's honestly crazy to think how many copycats she had in the late 90s/early 2000s, she really opened doors for pop girls 5

People discounting her legacy and power are very dumb. Same with Xtina To be a bombshell blonde was the trendy thing back in the 2000. Totally opposite to the big vocalist-r&b chanteuse from the 90s That bubblegum era was as revolutionary as the Electropop 2009-2011 one. Pop girls like Avril-Pink even when they had their own personas were 4 sure marketed to be some sort of edgy Antibritneys in the 2001-2002 Even my fave Shakira Laundry Service era (2002)... i have to recognize and i think in some ways was inspired by Britney Shakira was her own spirit-vibe but her image was very "Britney" to cater-appeal to the american market. She was like a Britney but very Exotic with an arabic-latino-rockstar twist and huge talent to back it up. Edited August 29, 2023 by AvadaKedavra 1
JustHoran Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 I LOVE Hoku, and she was one of my favorites after Britney. She could have still been around. I've talked to Hoku over the years, and she's told me things (which is fine to share, she doesn't mind and has mentioned it in interviews since) She started recording a second album with her label but she ended up walking away from the industry and her career because her label wanted her to be something she wasn't (a very sexy, mature image) and she ended up walking away and shelving her album. She released a great EP in 2006 and opened for Gwen Stefani at some shows She released a Christian album recently independently. She is also thinking about recording a new pop album but it's not 100% yet. Fingers crossed! 2
Fastlane Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Her label was so ***** dumb not to release "Perfect Day" as the commercial & airplay single. 1
orange22 Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Not super familiar with her but I hope the good sis is getting her COIN from all the commercials/movies her music is in!
Afterglow Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 (edited) I have her debut album. I was more the Hilary Duff/Raven/Miley generation for music but I remember Hoku very well. I would've loved to see this sexy/mature album of her tho. Edited August 29, 2023 by Afterglow
ICLDXU4HS Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Never heard of her, but I'm kind of screaming at this being her dad? What in the Emi-Li Frangipane-Carey.

All icons in their countries, too. I know Britney met Priscilla and BoA back in her prime and she was super sweet to them. Edited August 29, 2023 by kataraqueen

I am from France and so many female artists were based on Britney Spears here too and being called "the french Britney Spears" to gain attraction lol. I've never seen that with anyone else before or after. Edited August 29, 2023 by Erreur2 La Nature
50thStateofMind Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 the way she flopped and still had three iconic songs
EmailMySwift Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Is Perfect Day an amazing song or do I love it because of Legally Blonde?
