Iyanla, Fix Me Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 Im shocked since most liberals are in favor of this right? I guess not all policies work for all city/states. With that in mind, it’s ridiculous that DC isn’t a state at this point.

One might not describe the Democratic party of Washington D.C. as particularly liberal.
Distantconstellation Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 We need rank choice voting to break that duopoly. Progressives are all for rank choice voting but Republicans and corporate dems usually don't want it.
byzantium Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 Despicable, but what else would I expect from the DNC? The irony is, they are demonstrating exactly why we need RCV. We need to beak the party system and this illusion of choice. 1

I’m not disagreeing, but just to add some nuance and how regional politics plays in, Alaska approved a ballot measure the same year Massachusetts rejected a similar measure. I would maybe make an argument that the degree in which a state in entrenched in a certain party will leave a harder time with RCV. (But honestly, I’d also be willing to make an argument the Alaska is just more progressive than Massachusetts) 1

What we need to do is to let the states do what they did in Alaska and Maine, and let the voters implement it. Nevada and Arizona might do so in 2024. I have more faith in the American people voting for the right issues directly that I do for them voting on specific candidates

I have more faith in the American people voting for the right issues directly that I do for them voting on specific candidates I agree, but just to note, they did that in Massachusetts and voters rejected it. But overall I truest the American people more than politicians. Edited August 21, 2023 by byzantium 1
