Tweet dragging Taylor for carbon emissions and ecoterrorism goes viral

Yeah her ‘never speaking a word about climate change’ was the wrong take sweetie.

Im conflicted though because I don’t see somehow of her stature would be able to fly commercial at this point. I just hope that she is financially offsetting at least some of the carbon generated from these trips.

The entire aviation industry accounts for just 2% of global emissions. There are so many other industries that need to be worried about that are responsible for much greater avoidable harm, let alone going after people who take frequent flights or even celebs who use private jets. While it's not exactly cool to use a private jet unnecessarily, the emissions from individual celebs is really not a massive concern. It's misplaced anger and the fossil fuel industry is super happy about it.

Every wealthy A-list celebrity has a private jet. Why focus only on Taylor?

I feel like this has been talked about for years? absolutely right she shouldn't be doing this but it should be stopped by legalization no by public out-lash, there's surely hundreds of celebs and even more private rich old billionaires doing the same and worse, but only Taylor is gonna go viral for it, still a good thing since it let's people know about steps that should have ALREADY been implement into law, not for the sake of future generations but literally so we can survive ours :chick3:

And y'all know when the world is burning... they'll be chilling for generations in underground bunkers and or secret expensive tech environments they developed for themselves while they could have been developing things to save the whole world, instead of tech specifically to save themselves not shared with the leasers while the last power-line burns to flames, no one's getting A/C and every house is burning.

Okay but what about all the other amazing things she does?

This isn't that. It's directly in line and the comparison makes sense. Can't answer the question then?

"It's dangerous for her to fly commercial" is such an infuriating argument.

In 2022 (when she wasn't even touring) just one of her jets flew 170 times and spent 16 days in the air, emitting 8,293 tonnes of carbon. The average person would have to live 500+ years to emit as much carbon as Taylor Swift's one jet emitted in 1 calendar year.

"We can't blame the individuals when corporations..." we can when their carbon emissions are so absurdly large. Yes. We can. And we should.

I don't care if the tweet came from a right wing mouthpiece and I don't care if she "never actually talked about climate change" she deserves the lashings anyway.

Nobody is saying she has to fly commercial or swear off private jets. The problem is the zero consciousness in her use of it.

Not this stupid clownery and misdirection again. Go after corporations and their emissions.

This kind of thing is literally just meant to perpetuate partisan bickering and prevent anything of substance from being discussed or getting done.

No, private individuals should also be held accountable especially RICH individuals like her

I remember Swifties saying that she mentioned that she flies to her nearest home in between shows. If that's not correct then apologies.

It is correct. It was stated in an interview Taylor did back in 2013.

"Even when she’s touring, she tries to sleep in her own bed, picking the shortest distance to one of her three residences and flying home in her private jet after shows. "

New York Magazine (13th paragraph down)

I feel like I've seen that she rented houses in some cities for the Rep tour though?

I thought she was unproblematic. I guess I was wrong. This is really disgusting tbh. No one should defend this behavior.

She doesn't fly home between shows in the same city but only after the shows in the same location end. She isn't doing signficantly more private jet flying that any other touring A-lister such as Beyonce and Drake.

She topped that stan compiled list because she rented out her private jets when she was barely using them during covid.  If like other celebs, she rented instead of owning private jets,  her emissions on said list would be lower even through in reality she was using the jets the same amount.

I agree with this, people are mad at Taylor’s rampant use of her private jets

Idk, I feel like if you're a big as Taylor this is bound to happen. Unfortunately there just isn't a feasible alternative to private jets that's environmentally friendly.

I've been thinking about this a Lot since 2022 trust me

Posted

Imo the solution to this is higher taxes that should be used to offset the emissions or mandatory cabon credit buying.

It’s so funny how Taylor is always the lightning rod for all kinds of cultural conversations
