Yessssss  this is the serve! Ciara is such an underrated artist and this is such a fantastic introduction to her this season. She’s a natural performer and this entry showcased that perfectly. I’m definitely excited to see you represent her this season. Hoping to see her get her flowers!

 

@ZORBIT - Tinashe

Lord, I forgot how much of a good song Pretend is. I loved that but haven’t heard it in years, whew it was good to revisit! Tbh I was a bit confused about the performance for like the first minute. The arrangement of the song was really dynamic and I couldn’t understand why she was just standing there. But then of course she broke out the dancing and it was full serve from there onwards. A great first entry, two absolutely underrated bops.

 

@Queen. - Nicki Minaj

I’m sorry but this performance is honestly terrible, laughable and tacky, and really doesn’t even represent her well at all. Doesn’t she hate this pop stuff now? Seems like such an odd choice to pick especially when she has options from her first era which are much more inline with her current style (eg. post pop sell out). Not to be too harsh but I think even she would be embarrassed looking back at this. It’s a mess. In this case I don’t think there is anything here to praise. 

 

@PoKiTaurus - Madonna

It’s wild to look at this knowing it is the beginning of the queen of pop. She evolved massively through her eras, but it’s clear even from this debut that she had great pop sensibilities. I don’t think it demonstrates her full dynamic persona, but there’s nothing specifically negative to critique here. You’ll have plenty of other opportunities to show off her evolution and growth, I’m sure. 

 

@blackoutbaby - Rihanna

Early Rih has often been criticised for not being the most performance or vocal based artist, but it’s obvious even from her early work like this just how charismatic of a star she is. Even when she is kinda giving nothing, she’s still a star. She just has it. While this specific video doesn’t show her full potential I do think it’s always interesting looking at how far she has come. And the song has always been so underrated, a bop!

 

@dejmieeen - Natalia Nykiel

So I have no idea who this is, so it truly is a first impression for me… and I enjoyed it! I don’t think I have a full idea of what kind of artist she is based on just this video, but I’m definitely intrigued. I’ll be looking forward to how you showcase her in the future rounds.

Kelly kinda never misses! She’s delivering everything you could want here; raw talent, charisma, and blooming star power. Love it.

Honestly, this is still kinda her best era to date. Definitely feels very nostalgic watching this and listening to this song! It was a great introduction to her, and this entry showcases that era really well. Good job. 

 

@Jai - Sza

Sza is not really somebody that I am really that familiar with unfortunately but I enjoyed this entry! A really cute set up, we love a stripped down acoustic moment and she sounds great. 

 

@Invisibility - FKA Twigs

Oh wow oh wow. I am not familiar with this era or song, and maybe that even played to your advantage with this entry. This performance is so atmospheric and beautiful. Contender for best entry of the entire round imo. So unique, artistic and inspired. 

 

@Overprotected - Mariah Carey

You just can’t beat Mariah at her peak. You can’t! A legend and a talent from the very beginning, great entry. 

 

@Psycho - Kylie Minogue

How can anybody not love Miss Minogue? She’s so joyous and energetic and this video is a perfect demonstration of that (despite the low quality lol). Love it. 

 

@Kylie Verzosa - Rosalia

This is an amazing and fierce performance. Never seen this before but I love it. Does she perform like this often/have songs like this? I need more!

 

@thecptz - RuPaul

There’s no way somebody could watch this and not live at least a little. Iconic song! Broom herself can sometimes kinda personify go girl give us nothing, especially these days, but when her charisma is on full show - like in this video - it’s beyond infectious.
