Emotional songs are something that mean a lot more to me as an adult than they did as a kid. Lyrics and instrumentation mean everything. You can deliver a powerful emotional song with a wide variety of production however. 

 

The following songs would have received an 11/10 score from me if they were in the competition

 

 

 

All three of these songs deliver an emotional punch, and all three of them have their own unique flavor in terms of production. There's a reason why these songs were fan favorites on folklore, Love Sux and Bangerz respectively.

Some songs that make me feel sad and why -

 

 

There is a very palpable desperation in her voice and you can literally feel the emotion in your bones. I think piano is a great instrument for sad songs. 

 

 

This is more narrative song and the story is very clear - she is singing about a man who was a soldier and took someones life. This song has stunnig production that keeps you engaged and intrigued and you kinda feel for the guy:

"The war is still raging inside of me
I still feel the chill
As I reveal my shame to you"

 

 

This is another narrative song about domestic violence. 

 

 

 

"But what you did was just as dark
Darling, this was just as hard"

Sometimes I enjoy feeling things that are supposed to be bad.

 

Emotions are a beautiful thing. A lot of life can be so mundane, but when you're really feeling something, you're truly alive.

 

I like to feel scared, I like to feel sad, I like to feel pain.

 

These are some songies that get me feeling sad.

 

Post Malone - Reputation

 

This song is emotionally charged right from the opening line "take my own life just to save yours", the entire song feels very self deprecating, yet very loving.

But the real reason I'm choosing to mention this song is for the line "I betrayed us, but us don't give a f***"

At first listen you may assume "us" is Post and a girl, but it's him talking to himself. It's a beautiful way of expressing how he's in such a low that he's self sabotaging and acting against his own self interest but he can't even bring himself to care, let alone change.

 

 

Olivia Rodrigo - 1 step forward, 3 steps back

 

This one hits me especially hard because I've been in a similar place. You love someone but they're toxic. You don't know if today you're going to be treated as if you're their entire world or as if you're the worst thing that's ever happened to them, and you blame yourself for it.

hi, you could use upbeat ballads or not too slow songs if you want to be risky. 

Again, if you want to take a risk, you can go with non-ballads

for me, if i judge, i will be ok with not too slow songs as long as lyrically it is strong and evokes sad emotions

 

but im not like the other judges so you guys might want to consider which route you wanna go.

Deffo up there for me. Probably the objective best song on the album. I have some personal bias toward Ballad Of A Homeschooled Girl, Pretty Isn't Pretty and Lacy, but Making the bed is my 4th personal favourite. Making The Bed still on top objectively tho. we applaud taste.

 

I recently got back in touch with an old friend I hadn't spoken to in over 5 years and they said they always thought of me when listening to "hope ur ok"

 

Olivia has the best emotional songs, ya'll will see if I pop up next season
