Is it hard to play? What’s a good gameplay comparison? ….Elden Ring was too much for me.

It's not hard at all, even on balanced mode, and there's an easy option :)

Gameplay wise, it's most similar to Larian's previous effort: Divinity 2. Also similar to Disco Elysium.

ngl i hate those type of games but i wish that BG 3 wings GOTY so Hogwarts Legacy wont

edit:

Also should I play 1 and 2 before playing 3?

You don't need to play 1 or 2.

Re: Hogwarts... that was never in contention for GOTY. :fan:

Unless Starfield somehow surprises, and I don't think it will, I think TOTK will take most of the awards, even over BG3.

I don’t even understand who the fk is Baldur and why everyone wants to go to his gate:lakitu: so no, you don’t need to have played the previous games. This one is aparently set 100 years after BG2. The plot is easily understandable without pripr knowledge of the game.

@Tripthelight I would not say it’a hard to play. You are not pressed by time as it is turn based so it’s not like you need to hone your reflexes against a boss very long. You can pretty much press f5 to quicksave at any point so you can do that before a bossfight and then learn the boss’s weak points and go back to the previous save. Plus, in most cases there are multiple ways of approach to almost all battles.

I can't believe I put like 50 hours into Act I.:bibliahh:

The side quests are really well done so I'm doing all of them.

I think I clocked in around 60h for act I:alexz2: But I redid some things with quicksave cuz Astarion dissaproved. Also I replayed an entire hour in the Ghityanki Creche so I could get Bloof Of Lathander before I beat the boss there and doublecross

Spoiler

Vlakith by lying to her and not stabbing my Guardian

What class - race - background did you pick?:swan:

I chose a lore bard, high elf, entertainer. :rip: I usually always choose a support role, but I didn’t feel like playing cleric. I’m kind of new to these type of games and just wanted more story/dialogue in my first run. Hbu :chick1:

My character is pretty similar. Bard College of Lore, Entertainer (I was undecided between this and Noble), high half elf instead of elf though.

I'm in act 2 now and I think I start to get the gist of all the game mechanics, but I'm still afraid that I waste my spells and don't use them tew much.

My biggest problem is I don't know when it's appropriate to use long rest. I tend to not use it for quite a while even though I have the resources:deadbanana4:

Wait we have the same character, mine is high half elf too. Tbh I just wanted the cutest one and the other races weren’t serving. :rip:

I’ve been respec-ing my companions a lot, I just turned Astarion into a Gloomstalker Assassin and he does so much damage and has so many turns if I dual wield. Karlach is great too as a Barb and front liner. :WAP: Gale.. idk what to think about him and I feel like I’m not playing him right. :rip:

I’ve really been long resting like every 3-4 fights and using the healing spells/potions to avoid long resting too much. I think Bard gives us an extra short rest. I kind of understand the combat now and been changing my play style a bit. I tend to ungroup Astarion from the battles to sneak and take advantage of the environment. In the beginning I was playing like it was Pokemon. :rip: The only thing I feel like I’m missing out on though are the potions/elixirs and items like grenades.

Bioware better see this and remaster Dragon Age: Origins

I'm not sure if I want to re-spec Astarion. I have him on Arcane Trickster and I find his magic spell do a lot of damage (or better said have higher percentages of success) especially in boss fights. I might try it for fun to make him assassin to see how easy  I can one-shot monsters with him though. He's so good for disarming traps though, I have +18 on him, which is basically 95% chance of success. It is fun but I always remain with 4 inspiration points bcs I don't get to use them.

I find Gale kinda useless but I do have 2 good quarterstaffs (Arcane Blessing & Mourning Frost) so I keep him in my rotation. I love Lae'zel and Karlach though - simply because they're so easy to use during fights and have multiple actions/attacks:sistrens:

Btw, how are you handling money? I have like 17k gold and I'm not sure if I should even buy stuff or still save.

17k gold? :jonny6: I have like 4k because I have been buying stuff. I don’t really pickpocket even though I should. :deadbanana4:

I did some save scumming with Astarion until I stole 1k from the Underdark thielfing trader and 1k from the Zentharim hideout trader.

Theoretically you can do this to all the traders that you have once in between 2 long sleeps. :jonny5:But I stopped abusing it since in 9.5/10 cases I triggered other NPCs which I do not want, and I also get easily annoyed doing the same "mecanic" again and again:clownny: Basically I loot everything, put it in camp and then go sell it.

Did you  already finish act 1? And who are you romancing?:gaycat1:

I'm a Drow warlock folk hero in act 2, pretty sure I'm romancing Halsin.:gaycat1:

You start getting so much food that you could pretty much long rest after every fight, I at least short rest after every one to get my warlock spell slots back. :gaycat1:

I’m romancing Halsin and Astarion. :rip: I’m pretty sure Astarion hates me tho bc I’m going the good guy route. I just started Act II and reached the inn.

The way I made no effort and rejected multiple times both Lae’zel and Gale and for her I have exceptional approval and for Gale very high. Meanwhile for Astarion who I’m trying to romance I have just High (57 points) I also did mostly “good hero” choices.

Do you guys use the parasites to get more Ilithid powers? I have taken 5 and I am debating  if I should continue or not

Spoiler

Cuz I don’t wanna transform into a Mindflayer myself at the end

I really hope this one wins GOTY :jonny:

On the topic of side quests, they flow through the acts so seamlessly and weave into the main quests that I can’t really consider them side quests. Whew GOTY right there. :jonnycat:

The way I failed to

Spoiler

protect the portal with Halsin after I woke up that guy at the Last Light Inn and then Halsin died so I had to reload. I need to get to it again but postponed it a bit.

To be fair I think I needed to take a long sleep to recover my spells.

Meanwhile, my  guardian visited me for my first long rest in Act 2 and he served an outfit right out of Legends of Olympus / Ancient Greece mythology:jonny5:

I don't wanna brag but I feel like I snapped a bit in character creation with the Guardian in terms of beauty and uniqueness.:jonny6: On Tiktok/Twitter/Youtube, everybody's guardian is either extremely basic looking, or str8 up ugly because it was made in a rush:fan:
