Big Bad Wolf Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 So stupid, why are they always so sensitive? Nothing about this is Anti-Semitic 3 1 1

Khal Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 Whether it's antisemitic, idk, but It's certainly is an odd, side-eye worthy choice, especially when you consider Bradley's actual nose isn't small either, so they didn't even need to exaggerate it that much to start with 1
Lost In Paradise Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 an extremely online person gets other extremely online people to agree with their reductive take hope everyone involved got their necessary dose of "feeling like the good guys" today 2 1 1
Elusive Chanteuse Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 I don't think Spielberg would be involved in something anti-semetic.

Then when there's real racism in the real world people don't bat an eye bc they are saturated with all of you trying to cancel somebody new EACH DAY. Where did I say I wanted to cancel him? I don't think he should be cancelled, I think it was just an honest case of bad judgement. That doesn't mean the criticism is invalid. You can criticize someone and not want their career to be over. People make mistakes. I don't believe Bradley is an antisemite nor do I believe he intended for anyone to get upset. He just made a bad choice, and that leaves him open to criticism. Everyone is deserving of criticism when they make a bad choice....that doesn't mean I want to see them ruined over it. And I'd say most people commenting on this don't wanna see him ruined over it either. What a strange takeaway from all that. Please put your critical thinking cap on next time. @michael Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 This was so unnecessary He already has a huge nose
Fleahive Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 Different “ethnicities” have different features. Those features are highlighted when their ethnicity plays a part in the film. It bugs me when someone complains about a physical feature being a stereotype when it’s literally what sets your group apart from other groups. Reactions like this show insecurity people feel about themselves.

But in this case Is a fact that's the kinda of nose a real character had so the controversy Is useless. Except it's not... at all Leonard Bernstein irl did not have a nose like the prosthetics in the movie

Jake Gyllenhall, an actual Jewish actor, wanted to be the one to direct and star in this movie, but somehow Bradley Cooper ended up walking away with the rights to make the movie. By putting on a prosthetic to look “more Jewish,” Bradley Cooper is essentially turning Jewish people into a caricature. Helen Mirren put on prosthetics to look more like Golda Meir in the new Golda movie coming out, and she managed to do it without putting on a big nose. Being Jewish is an ethnicity as well as a religion, yes, but there are many different ways to “look” Jewish than the Nazi stereotype of obnoxiously big nose. Jake Gyllenhaal, the white actor who played a Prince of Persia? He can sit down. Bradley looks more like Bernstein than him anyway, and Spielberg wanted Cooper to direct after seeing ASIB. 3
Raiden Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 (edited) Fake outrage — t's not like they attached a hook nose — the prosthetics was simply a layer plastered over his nose, not a nasal ridge shape change (that shape is purely Bradley's own nose). If the complaint is that they used prosthetics at all (that it was redundant) then fair enough, but that's like complaining about standard Hollywood practice. They prolly overdo this makeup stuff all the time in order to say the person "transformed" so they grab Oscars and other silverware. Edited August 18, 2023 by Raiden
