This kind of surveys are really misguiding. I hate how they make LGBT people look crazy, like we're victimizing ourselves and things aren't really that bad.

Almost no one in a first world country who is asked "how do you feel about LGBT people?" is going to answer "I HATE THEM". That doesn't mean that we are actually accepted in society. People will say "I don't have a problem with them, they can do whatever they want as long as they don't harm others", and still completely ignore our oppression, vote for politicians who disrespect us and participate in hate speech. These  surveys make the impression that LGTBphobia is dead with a bunch of superficial hypothetical questions ("Would you accept your daughter if she were a lesbian?" "Oh of course I would! She's my daughter after all!"), meanwhile we are still the Other by default.

I get why they make the studies, but the queer experience is a much more complex issue than these headlines make it seem. Our alienation will never end if we assume that "acceptance" is people casually affirming that we are not demons or something.

these results surprise me. like i normally associate lesbianism with terfism tbh because a lot of the most staunch and vocal terfs are lesbians.  i guess a demographic can by and large be more accepting while also having the most staunch opponents within it as well.

im also skeptical of how many of these cis lesbians would walk the walk and actually get with transbians.

The huge disparity between LGBTQ women and men.

Misleading survey questions as already mentioned and from YouGov, which is notoriously unreliable in general.

There's no argument that the question with regards to support for trans people is misleading and other surveys have found similar results. Did the framing of the first tweet in the thread about perception of hate vs cishet people's surveyed feeling ruffle some of your feathers that much? Because that largely isn't the point of the thread.

I'm too tired for my feathers to be ruffled that much honestly. It's worthwhile, I'm just intensely cynical.

This is a weird question, are you supposed to like them because they're trans or because they're good people?

I would've voted neutral

It is insane to me especially that you can be a lesbian, gay, or bisexual and not be supportive of trans people. Like I get it is not exactly the same struggle but how do you not relate to that struggle. It is literally the same as people not understanding how you can be attracted to the same sex. Sure, I am not trans and don't understand those feelings, but that is exactly how many feel towards me being gay and how can that happen :skull:

What does liking individual people have to do with agreeing that the rights of a historically oppressed and marginalized group should be upheld :rip:

Cis gay/bi men at a dismal 65%. This is utterly shameful.

But that isn’t the question the poll respondents were asked. The question was “How positively or negatively do you view transgender people?”

…exactly. People, as in, plural, as in a group of people that make up a minority group :deadbanana4:

The questions are kinda awkward and I think some people would say neither positively or negatively as a way of saying they see them like anyone else. I do think majority of cis LGB people do support the trans community but the pick me gays often have the loudest voices.
