Well you need time to became mega. Taylor and Beyoncé were just popular popstars in the OOs, early 2010s, now after more than 10 years near to 15 of career they really became recognized as mega multigenerational pop stars. So you Need the time, but big popstars as you said are still there.

Yes totally agree, you need consistency. I feel these music execs just want quick cash, it's partially their fault and the way they promote their artists.

also what miss Linda Perry used to say... make sure the music is GOOD. invest in real musicians and artists that have talent and potential. not gimmicks and memes. people literally dont make good albums anymore. if the product is good, people will simply buy it. just like any other product.

What most people in this thread have already said.

Most new celebrities (there are a few exceptions) do not have any star power or charisma and they are quick to give up (or their label is quick to give up).

They just get hits for 1 quick era and then are quickly replaced by the next artist who can make cash for the label. They lack originality, talent and any true personality (outside of memes).

It takes time to build a loyal fanbase that allows artists to tour decently worldwide, provide a safety net even in the case of underperformance and be hot in demand for big deals.

Most of the newer artists mentioned here didn’t blow up overnight. Dua has been working her ass off since 2015/2016 to break out in the UK, then Europe, then WW. Bad Bunny has released over 100 singles, trying to breakthrough in South America, then WW and now getting effortlessly top 10/20 hits on BB. Harry Styles came from one of the biggest bands, had already a loyal fan base and put in the work to make it.

Big record labels are dead and this should be celebrated

All the popstars this forums loves were exploited to death by them, they are basically survivors of a horrible system

I’m okay with artists self-funding and going viral on their own

No record exec should be able to own an artist or  someone’s art, that should be illegal tbh.

I think the concept of the popstar is dead and it will never comeback, it was a good show while it lasted.

How are artists without rich parents supposed to self fund and make it without a big label?

It wouldn't be possible for someone like Rihanna to make it compared to people like Taylor/Beyonce who grew up rich

The entry barrier has dropped. Anyone cam get a microphone and software and produce in their house

You can also push your music in social media.

I do agree nepo babies have a huge advantage and yeah it is a problem, but if you are really hungry these days you can blow up without a huge label behind you

They dont need to be depressed. Like in economy, if you want to push for Innovation, you have to tackle the monopoly. The industry needs to make an effort to bringing down a certain someone so that new talent can shine. Cause right now, Investors mostly just go to the big one instead of investing into new, fresh blood. And the gap has become too much

But songs made by someone without an expensive team of professionals will never sound as good as someone who just made it at home

The only people good at self making music at home are very rich people who have had lessons since like age 5

Coming from the same industry that doesn't do artist development any more :rip:

They don't want to invest in artists that would have longevity but chasing viral hits  smh

It also doesn't help that Gen Z have no taste or talent yet they seem to be the target audience for everything.

They never did. Mariah wasn't allowed to evolve, nor was Britney. Music execs are literally overbearing secretaries
