Legend Misha Barton carried the whole thing. :nicole:

I'm still grieving Marissa's death. :cries:

Seth and Summer were a tragedy, they should have kept their **** for another show.

Olivia Rodrigo is very Summer Roberts coded

this look was very deja vu :smitten: i won’t be surprised if it was direct inspiration because she posts quite a lot about The OC

My first nickname on the internet was Seth Summers back in the early 2000s because of Seth and Summer :rip:

From earlier this year:

Quote

The show marks Bilson’s return to TV after a few years away. In the meantime, she’s been doing something that former teen stars rarely do: celebrating the role that made her famous by way of Welcome to The O.C., B*tches! a re-watch podcast, co-hosted with former The O.C. co-star Melina Clarke. (Bilson also co-hosts Broad Ideas alongside her best friend Olivia Allen, where topics range from ghosts to mental health.) In a world where most actors would like the public to forget their first gig, Bilson is embracing hers on a weekly basis. “You know what? I’m so grateful for the show,” Bilson says. “Josh Schwartz is literally family to me; we’re so close. And he knows, to this day, it gave me everything. I’ve never lost sight of that. It’s just been a blessing. I love Summer. You know what I mean? Watching her grow throughout the series, I’m proud of her.”

Now 41, Bilson was 21 when she starred as Summer Roberts, the confident and wildly passionate popular girl with a heart of gold. While an entire generation of young women grew up idolizing Summer, for Bilson, who never watched the show the first time around, it’s an eye-opening journey. “She’s taught me things in watching her,” she admits. “She’s always true to herself. I need to channel that a little bit more in my life."

In August, the show will turn 20 years old. By some miracle — or unfortunate twist of fate, depending on how you look at it — The O.C. is one of the only beloved teen hits that has not been rebooted, remade, or reunion-ized (save for guest appearances by the likes of Adam Brody and Mischa Barton on the podcast). Bilson says that while there’s been “loose conversations” on what that possibility could look like, it seems unlikely. “I’m not sure how it would work, unless we have kids and they’re in high school, you know? I think it’s like we’ve come this far without it. I feel like people are still discovering it for the first time, too.” Though still years from high school, her daughter is not that far off from the age when many pre-teens, now in their 30s, started devouring the show way back in 2003. Bilson shudders at the thought. “Oh, she’s not watching The O.C. until she’s 35," she says. “She’s not watching anything. Maybe Hart of Dixie… that’s pretty sweet and wholesome and a good time. I mean, mom has to make out sometimes and she doesn’t need to see that [right now]. But maybe eventually…”

And in this interview from just a few days ago Rachel pretty much lets it slip there have been talks about a limited series, but it's likely not gonna happen because some of them have given hard no's over the years.

Adam also talked a bit about The O.C. turning 20 in this Variety podcast from a few days ago around the 27m mark, but the Welcome to the OC, *******! podcast (that is now over) is the best to reminisce about it (+ all the lead actors were guests at some point)

I still treasure my complete series box set and have watched it (almost) every summer, it's the best

I was thinking about this the other day. I’m surprised there hasn’t been any attempt at a reboot yet (not saying I want one).

The first 2 and a half-ish seasons are excellent. It goes to absolute **** afterwards but when it was good, it was amazing.

No need to make a reboot / sequel or whatever. Just give us a blu ray release or a special cast reunion like friends.

A classic! The whole thing is such a vibe including the theme song. It has such good rewatchability as well. I've rewatched at least 4 times. I remember being a kid and watching the season 3 finale and being completely shocked and not knowing what to do with myself afterward. I miss this genre of tv where its just one dramatic storyline after another.

I tried watching other teen dramas from that time after watching this and none compare. I know its techincally a soap but when compared to other teen dramas it doesn't really feel like one especially the earlier seasons, it felt more sophisticated. The mix between the teens and the parents storyline and just the family dynamic in general was so good and for the most part the acting was top notch. One Tree Hill for example just feels like a straight up soap opera and not a good one. I also tried Friday Night Lights which I hear is good, I didn't get very far but nothing really stood out to me.

Why does it feel older?! I thought Gossip Girl was like 20 years

That was the moment! I remember showing up to school every day after a new episode aired that first season and everyone was abuzz. But things fell off after that.

I loved binge watching this for the first time like 8 years ago

i agree the final season fell off pretty hard

mischas acting was really bad and stiff but she made the show

I still find funny that Misha Barton thought she was bigger than the show
But still the first two seasons were amazing

There's also a new official book about the show coming:

It’s the definitive oral history of beloved TV show The O.C., from the show’s creators, featuring interviews with the cast and crew and never-before-seen photos, providing a behind-the-scenes look into how the show was made, the ups and downs over its four seasons, and its legacy today.

Including interviews with BEN MCKENZIE, MISCHA BARTON, ADAM BRODY, RACHEL BILSON, PETER GALLAGHER, KELLY ROWAN, MELINDA CLARKE, and more

And it changed my life for the better. This, One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl… people just don’t know.

Probably one of the most iconic shows of the 2000's, it left a mark. Watched it for the first time about 2 years ago, and season 1 was just top notch, amazing. It got worse with every season, but I can say the first 2 were great, the third was good still.

Toxic Marissa's death was... oh my God, so f*cking sad, everything went downhill after that, but damn, what a sad event.

I used to love this show so much during my early teen years. Ryan was so sexy to me. :WAP:

Posted

The soundtrack was out of this world, so many indie songs that I still listen today.

The first two seasons are great - third overlong and bad written - fourth felt like fan fiction, stopped being a serial drama but at least they closed the storylines.

All this 20 year The O.C. nostalgia is making me want to rewatch it. The way everyone used to be perched Tuesday nights to watch this. It was the teen drama of the time. Plus, the music pushed it to the next level. The scene where Marissa kills Ryan's brother to save him and Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap plays... like whew, ICONIC moment! I still get goosebumps thinking about it :jonny5:
