I dont think Selena should get it or deserves it yet, MAYBE after she has 1 or 2 more big eras. But people laughing at her being mentioned and thinking that Miley and Ariana deserves are delusional af. It has been 10 years since Wrecking Ball, what she releases for us now are Jaded/ESV overall visuals type of snoozefest, and im not even going to start writing about Ariana’s visuals cuz its just so lackluster and boring. Selena doesnt deserve it but neither does them, enough with the ceiling glass only against Selena all the time. 
 

And i will say more: Bad Liar and Fetish visuals were more interesting than anything they did.

Ariana - too early. I could see it this decade.

Miley - perfect time. Who knows when she is going to get another Flowers again since she is an arts not charts star now.

Jonas Brothers - why??? they are good but they are not that iconic

Taylor - of course but she'd benefit from waiting until later in the decade right before she collects AOTY for the 2020s.

Bruno - I could see it but I'd also like another era or two but I wouldn't be mad.

Selena-similar to Ariana but I could see it this decade.

Drake- timing would be ok. Good promo for the new era.

 

If Shakira isn't in the running, then Miley would be great and Drake would be good.

Gaga, Katy, Bieber would make sense but I think Gaga's 2020 award will suffice for her.

The only point for VMAs Vanguard is to book a 10 minute-ish performing slot for promo. Artists with no current era rolling would very likely decline the invitation until they do.

 

It’s more of a promo tool than a life changing achievement.

No, it's a different award. I always felt that she was going to get it in 2020 but didn't want to receive it because of the whole pandemic situation and no live audience. But MTV still wanted to recognize her achievements so they gave her that instead. She'll probably choose to be awarded the Vanguard during her next active era or a milestone career year (20th, 25th etc) now.

 

OT: Some of these choices...   Shakira would be well deserved though.
