EUROVOIX NEWS: United Kingdom: Rina Sawayama Was Approached For Eurovision 2023

Rina Sawayama seriously considered an offer to represent the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.

Speaking on The Euro Trip podcast, Nick Levine claimed that Sawayama told him during an interview that she had received an offer to fly the UK flag at the contest, held on home soil in Liverpool in May.

She apparently thought long and hard about the chance to perform at Eurovision, and was willing to accept the offer. However, after she got back to the UK team, she didn’t hear any more from them.

Rina Sawayama was the subject of intense speculation during the run-up to the announcement of the UK’s artist for Eurovision 2023. The singer even responded to some fan theories and rumours around her participation directly on social media.

This news comes right after the announcement that Tap Music will no longer be working with the BBC for Eurovision 2024.

EUROVOIX NEWS: United Kingdom: TaP Music Ends Eurovision Partnership with BBC

TaP Music have announced that they will no longer be partnering with the BBC on the United Kingdom’s entry to the Eurovision Song Contest. TaP has been involved in selecting the artist to represent the United Kingdom at the contest since 2022, when Sam Ryder achieved the country’s best result in 20 years with “Space Man”.

However, they have confirmed on Twitter today that they have decided to “pass the baton back”. The news means that the BBC will have to make some changes to their process for finding an artist to compete for the UK at Eurovision 2024, set to be held in Malmö, Sweden.

A missed opportunity. She could have served an acclaimed bop that got the UK in the top 10 for a second year in a row :jonny5:

she definitely wouldve been a strong contender even with a mid song considering she's an incredible performer, but things happen for a reason i guess.

Pity, but I guess someone else accepted the offer quicker

Tragic how her UK entertainment industry keeps trying to dim her star. She's easily one of the best pop girlies of this generation.

ABSOLUTELY AGREED. They did her and RAYE so dirty when they are both some of the best TALENT we have in music.

Imagine having Rina willing to go and end up sending a high school talent show level performer instead. 2022  truly was a fluke.

Anyone else remember the BRITS (?) eligibility fiasco?

Rina deserves better.

I still can't get over that one user claiming Mae was on lock for a top 5 placement :dies:

I'm glad she didn't get this. Competing in Eurovision is something for cheesy acts, Rina would be better off continuing the indie-route and growing a loyal fanbase. ESC-fame comes and goes by quickly.

Omg wtf this would’ve been amazing and a career defying moment for her. It would’ve elevated her completely.

:deadbanana::deadbanana::deadbanana::deadbanana::deadbanana::deadbanana::deadbanana::deadbanana::deadbanana::deadbanana::deadbanana::deadbanana: I'm so mad

Well, she wouldn't have won this year. I'd imagine Loreen would have still dominated the jury (maybe slightly less depending on the song Rina would do) and Kaarija would still have got the public vote.

Hopefully 2024 is on the cards. :clap3:Glasgow 2025 :clap3:

She needs to be cooking Frankenstein 2.0 in the studio so she can win Eurovision in 2024

She has the full package unlike other Eurovision acts that become forgotten while she can become a household name across Europe. She already has strong, small but growing fanbase. With Eurovision, she would gain casuals too!

Can we stop with this outdated view? It's not the 2000s anymore, Eurovision is part of the mainstream now and plenty of acts are seeing commercial success.

The opportunity to compete on home soil when the UK's interest in ESC is the highest its been in decades could have been a game changer for someone like Rina
