Mornings Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 I won’t believe he can dodge 3 indictments. I just wish whoever has the power to would hurry up and disqualify him from running for president again.
Blue Monday Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 And yet Republicans will continue to stand 10 toes deep behind him like he's not a deplorable pile of garbage 1

From what I understand ONLY the Jan 6 charges could disqualify him (treason, conspiring against the US), but the legal system moves slowly and I doubt they’ll expedite it during an election because it will look poorly. We can only hope that he loses in 2024 because if he’s found guilty it’ll probably happen way after then. In other words, all these indictments probably mean nothing for the election. Take all that with a grain of salt, I’m not the best with legal stuff but that’s what I’ve read.

The New York and (likely) Georgia charges will be state charges, if he’s convicted there, the office of the presidency can’t protect him there, unless the governor pardons him (I think)

Just because whatever VP he chooses I KNOW is going to be scary when and if he allows himself to be removed from office
spree Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 If Trump is not allowed to run, won’t everyone gravitate towards DeSantis then? Is that what you want?

Trump will probably be mired in so many lawsuits by the time the election heats up the GOP will probably put all their bets on DeSantis anyway.

Trump anticipated this by trying to make the New York case a federal one, but that got rejected. This next year is going to be such a disaster

This next year is going to be such a disaster New York: Quote Trump currently faces actual or potential criminal charges in two states, New York and Georgia. He has been indicted by a Manhattan grand jury on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records under New York law. The only pertinent pardon power related to those charges belongs to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, who is unlikely to agree to pardon the former Republican president. Georgia: Quote The second state-level investigation is ongoing in Fulton County, Ga., in connection with Trump’s infamous recorded call imploring Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger that “I just want to find 11,780 votes” to swing that state in his column. If district attorney Fani Willis produces an indictment, which she recently announced could be forthcoming this summer, Trump would have to turn to a five-member Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles for a pardon. Georgia’s Republican Gov. Brian Kemp has the power to appoint members, but they serve staggered, seven-year terms that are subject to confirmation by the state Senate. And unlike presidential pardons, which can be doled out arbitrarily with few legal constraints, Georgia’s pardon program has stringent eligibility requirements. Trump could only apply for a pardon in Georgia after he is indicted and convicted, and only after five additional years have passed since completion of his sentence. Source 1
Velvet Night Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Third time's the charm but I hope there's also a fourth, fifth and sixth time.
Dula Peep Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Wasn’t he caught on tape asking for thousands of votes? Isn’t that enough to ban him from running again?

Both of them are unelectable, every Republican is unelectable, Republicans have no chance at winning a Presidential election for the next 3-5 cycles, at LEAST.

I agree. DeSantis' campaign is just so bad that there is no way he could win on a national level when Trump is dominating him in Florida polls. 1

I just don't understand how more people don't see this, the Republican Party is all-but-irreparably damaged in the eyes of educated, young, and independent voters. People see them as traitors and an international embarrassment. 1

Sugar-Rush Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 He could be indicted 100 times yet his stans and the GOP as a whole will still defend him. I won't be satisfied until he's actually behind bars.
